There has just been a BT ad on tv and I'm almost sure that they offered free sport and free anytime calls for a year.

I just checked the website and I didn't miss-hear, but the bb is full price.
  • after a lengthy discussion today i have been allowed to cancel. AT first they told me only my line rental was going up so i couldn't but after me showing them what i was sent with the broadband price checker they confirmed it was a rise and id be free to go.

I was then told i had to cancel all services and wait for the line to go dead before getting a new service which again they admitted was wrong after discussion.

I actually felt sorry for the girl tbh as she admitted they had no training regards the price rises and the process regards cancellation procedures.

At any rate my cancellation is in and i have now ordered elsewhere. I fully expect bt to mess it up and start cancellation charges etc despite the notes on my account. They dont make it easy do they?

Yes, the usual BT marketing con. Ooh, look, I can get free anytime calls for a year. But wait, that means I can't get free BB for 6 months. And £16/mth for u/l BB these days is pretty extortionate to be honest.

After phoning bt today, the girl explained that I can cancel my line rental with no fee but as my broadband is unaffected I would have to pay a cancellation charge amounting to £154, I see from your post you have been able to cancel your broadband with no charge, can you give me some advice on this please.

I was told the same thing but in the email they sent to me was this link:

    http://www.bt.com/static/wa/account/pricechanges/vision.html?s_cid=con_FURL_pricechanges

which in turn gives you this link:

    https://www.bt.com/static/wa/account/pricechanges/login/login.html

You put in your account number and phone number and it tells you what your price change will be. With mine it showed a rise of £1.50ish. I made the bt agent put my details into that and then she agreed i could cancel.
  • Thanks for the help, unfortunately my broadband price is staying the same, I'm gutted as was getting a cracker of a deal from sky! :(
  • Please view "BT rep, please give information thread" as BT Robbie seems to say they let you leave.

Thanks, I still believe that because my broadband prices are staying the same bt will not let me leave without incurring a charge, I can move supplier for my line rental but its hardly worth it, seeing as the deal sky was offering was for everything. :(

if your on adsl id imagine that to be correct as im not sure if you need bt line rental for bt broadband (i may be wrong)

If you have infinity then you do need bt line rental and what is said in the other thread will apply.

Why not see if Sky will meet part or all of the BT (bb) cancellation fee. Then try to get BT to cancel the fee under their 10-day 'leave without penalty' clause.
Some of us with BT LRS have been reimbursed by Sky.
