    No.

When the price rises were announced BT (via their Rep on MSE) did try it on and say any who had paid line rental in advance would not get a refund.

This was not true, and many of us successfully left and got a refund of the unused line rental.

    All discussed in this thread.

So would it be to late now given the fact that I thought couldn't leave because of LRS being paid for 12 months and being told it was non refundable

Whoever told you it wasn't refundable mislead you.

Although it's late, assuming you were mislead by someone from BT, then you have grounds to complain and ask them to let you leave now.

Many posted that they found the executive level complaints dept (reached via the ceo's email) helpful over this issue.

Following on from my previous posts, in ensuring that I would not be charged for 1571 (which is the case) I was told by an online Uk based rep by email that I would be charged for Caller display (which I expected). However, just after , in trying to deal with another query, unexpectedly , the Indian call centre was adamant I would not be charged for caller display but could not say why. However rechecking with the email Uk rep, confirmed I would, as I expected.
But clearly the Indian call centre and the UK reps do not sing from the same hymn sheet.

Don't like to bump an old thread, but wanted to post some info regarding my cancellation, should anyone be bored enough to want to know.

I've been speaking with Executive Level Complaints since November. They cancelled the account no problem, but I was charged in November in advance for a month in full, rather than just what remained. That was fine though, as they said they would generate a new bill in December to issue a refund.

That happened and said I was 637.42 in credit (pretty much everything I'd paid since joining in 2012). Obviously they didn't send that money and after numerous emails, ELC said the accounts team are working on a new bill to refund me. A new bill finally came 5th Feb, but all it had was cancelling of that 637.42, making the balance zero. So although it is all closed off which was good, I'm still waiting to be refunded nearly 3 months later.

Oh and it took until 2 weeks ago for them to finally arrange returning of my equipment.

  • Hi all I wonder if you can advise me.

I am 10 months into an 18 months contract with BT for their unlimited broadband and unlimited weekend calls. I signed up when the offer was free broadband for 6 months. I ordered 2 lines so pay these charges x 2.

Anyway I only ever use the broadband, have not made a single call (asked at the time for broadband only but they wouldn't allow it). I use the internet minimally, and never use the 2nd line (don't ask.. there was a method in the madness at the time!). I am currently paying around £70 per month in total and I am on the most basic asdl with speeds of 6mb download and 0.34 upload. The wifi connection often falters.

Anyway, now we are moving and I want to cancel the line I do not use. BT have told me they will charge me £160 for this!!

I have just read about the price rises meaning we can cancel with no penalty. The complicated thing is I have never recieved notification of a price rise. Apparently it was detailed on the "my bill" section of the website, but I was unable to log in to this since I signed up with them and never bothered querying it.

Last week (17th) I rang to speak to them about my bill and was told about the price rises. They also set me up so I could log in to the website properly.

My question is, can I still cancel one of my lines now without penalty as I was unaware of the charges till I spoke with them last week? I spoke to them on the 17th but if I ring today will they still be amenable? As I don't plan to cancel my other line will this complicate things?

    Thanks

Given that letters and e-mails were sent out in late september/early october 2013 notifying people and you only had a 10 day window of opportunity possibly not, ask the BT Company Rep for the MSE Forum to have a look at it.Go to

  • I've never recieved any letters from them (paperless billing), and I have just checked my emails including junk and never had any notification. Literally the first I knew about it was when I rang to query my high bill and they told me about the caller display and 1571 and I was like "WHAT????!!"
