MSE News: BT reveals price rises - but you can escape the hikes

As Quentin says cancel now if that's what you want. As long as the notice is in, you don't actually have to have moved by then.
So when do you have to move by once you've given notice? I've got Line Rental Saver until December so I'd be happy to hang on until then, but my contract isn't up until May (18 month contact) but I don't want to hang around until then.0 -
You'd need to complete the move in 30 days.0

I've decided just to go for it and move now. I've just called the MAC code line (0800 328 6738). She advised that she has put notes on the account to show I've given notice that I wish to leave although she couldn't email me confirmation. She assured me I will not incur any termination fees.
I had to ask for a MAC (initially she said I was not likely to need one), which she was able to give me over the phone. She has agreed to email me the MAC code as well, but no sign of it yet.
Now off to PlusNet, I hope this all goes without a hitch.0 -
Phone back again and see what they say when you speak to a different person.
If that doesn't work email the CEO.
I was going to ring them again with a view to cancelling, as despite what the guy said earlier, I am certain my Infinity charges are to rise. However, I have decided to wait for the "personal" notification email or letter. I have read so many horror stories of people being promised this and that over the phone and later being stung for charges, so I'm not taking any chances.
Shame though as I've missed out on a potential £70 cashbackThis site has saved me a fortune :money: ...it's also cost me a fortune!

The email isn't personalised.
Everyone is the same.
Take care you don't lose the right to cancel without termination fees by delaying.0 -
Just had a quite lengthy call with BT about where I stand in regards to the price increases and it boils down to this.
1. My line rental saver ends in Feb so they said I would not be affected by the line rental increase as the increase would of already taken place by then even though I am not going to renew my LRS.
2. My infinity unlimited option 2 with calls is NOT increasing to £27.67 a month despite what their system states.
3. The 1571 and answerphone service will cost me an extra £3.50 a month from February.
Because I am still in contract for BT Vision and the Telephone until Feb and Infinity until August they said that despite the increase of £3.50 a month and me being worse of because of it they would only let me cancel my telephone line but I would incur a charge of £308 for terminating BT Vision and Infinity early (paying back fee's for the equipment plus ETF charges).
So despite me telling them that unless I do another 12 months line rental saver I am worse off by £3.50 a month or more if the Infinity charges turn out to be true (we get a lot of marketing, ppi, sales calls so it's invaluable to us) they refused to budge.
Now do I believe what they say and swallow the £3.50 extra it will cost me per month plus any extra charges for BT Infinity which may or may not be incurred or do I continue to fight to see if they let me out penalty free?
As all the packages rely on the telephone line how can they freely let me cancel one but charge me for everything else?
*EDIT*
Phoned up again and was told 100% my infinity is not increasing so I asked well where do I stand if it does? They said that because all the calls are recorded I could phone up and cancel my services because they well in effect lied to me despite going past the 10 day notice period.
Not sure what to believe now.0 -
What's the betting your call won't have been recorded if it actually came to that. This site has saved me a fortune :money: ...it's also cost me a fortune!

What did you say to get them to cancel your contract and also what contract did you still have with them and when did it run out?
Sorry for the questions BT are contesting the infinity increase and stating I will not be affected so are unwilling to let me out of my contract without charges.0 -
Daleski - i have line rental saver expiring in january, infinity option 2 and bt vision contract till july 2014. Im being allowed to leave penalty free so id say keep fighting.
I used the broadband price checker as my way of proving a rise.0
