i would argue the bt vision as you cannot keep it without bt broadband. I was told that it all falls under the same thing so they let me out penalty free.

the number i used was the i want to cancel option and i end up at customer options every time. the number is 0800 345 7310

I called up that number and they went off to check and said because BT Vision requires FTTC I can now leave penalty free and only have to pay the £30 cease charge as I am not moving FTTC to another company as I am going back to VM.

    Result :T
  • good stuff. bit shambolic though that all the bt departments give a different story.
  • My experience in leaving BT due to price increase. I used the online chat service to discuss my account and that I wanted to leave BT due to the price increase. The lady said my phone and Infinty contract wasn't due to end until 10/06/14. She went in to say that due to the price increase I was able to leave free of charge. She told me she had removed my contract end date from the system and all I had to do was call to confirm. When I called I explained I wanted to leave due to price increase on phone and infinity. He said my Infinty wasn't changing. He then went on to say that as I was out of contract I was free to move to whoever. Job done, arranged a call back with sky to confirm I wanted to transfer my services to them.

I tried on-line chat on Friday and got no-where. I'll give it a go again tomorrow. Thanks for the info.

I've just been re-reading the email BT sent me. In the small print the email states "If this change means you want to end your service, you can do that by telling us within ten days of receipt of this email without needing to pay a charge for ending your contract early." Surely, this statement allows the recipient to leave BT without penalty, regardless of what the t&c's say? Worth pointing out to any customer service agent I reckon.

I've just been on chat and finally, after uploading a jpeg attachment of the price increase link, got the operator to admit my broadand was to increase. I asked if he could confirm then that I was free to leave and...the connection was lost!

I am now in the queue again but as chat closes at 9pm, I don't hold out much hope. At least I have a record of the transcript! My aim is to get the contract end date removed as they did for you beano4444.

    Getting nearer!

Getting them to admit it is the hardest part once you have done that it should be easier getting out of the contract with no penalties.
