I'm really annoyed with myself. I've frittered £10 away on nothing much!

  • Mr A delivery today, bit annoyed though. Shopping only estimated at £25 and still 3 items were substituted and 2 unavailable which meant I missed out on an offer. So after all that it came to £23.91. Don't know why I shop with them, it's always the same!

Making some broth with the gammon joint I bought and realised I had no broth mix so had to pop to the shop for a bag of that which was 89p as well. Planning on making a huge batch of it so should hopefully be enough for at least 12 portions, some will just be for lunches, some will be done with dumplings for tea :D

    Will update signature now.

NSD yesterday and weekly shop of £8.43 tonight in sains. Can't believe I managed to do it that cheap, but can now understand the pressure people must feel when the budget is really low (I work with vulnerable mum's who are on benefits)! I have to say I found it really difficult walking round, phone in hand (for calculator) trying to make sure every penny was wisely used. Certainly a learning curve as I must admit I normally just think, oh I'll whack the excess on the debit card. Didn't give myself this option today.

Big shop of meat etc arriving tomorrow!

I had this happen to me on my last shop with them, so i'm only going to use them now when desperate or actually passing by a store.

I've managed 5 NSDs since the start of the month but my grocery shopping is now at £157. I spent more than I was planning to last weekend, I could take about £6 off and put it on to next month but don't think I'll bother, I always grab YS breakfast cereals when I can, so got Weetabix, Coco Pops and Crunchy Nut last weekend, all reduced because the boxes were a bit bashed, bought some tinned mushrooms for 46p, figured would do in a bolognese if I didn't have fresh in.

    My meal plan this week:

Mon -- savoury mince (basically mince and veg in gravy) with baked potato, petit pois and baby sweetcorn, froze half cooked mince for cottage pie at later date.

Tues -- on offer Taste the difference prawns in Pataks jalfrezi sauce, given me through work (how bizarre :)) with Sains Basics rice and Sains own brand naan which were also on offer. My daughter will make this. Yay.

Weds -- fish fingers, beans and baked potato, using up some frozen hash browns for me. A basic meal but quick and cheap, fish fingers were on offer in Sains, Birds Eye packs of 22.
Beans are Heinz, 20p for big tin from YS section as tiny bit bashed.

Thurs -- more processed food -- burgers with Basics salad and YS burger rolls from freezer, may do a few hm chips.Burgers are Sains Taste the Difference Aberdeen Angus and were on offer.

Friday -- toasted tuna or chicken sandwiches with salad and Covent Garden mushroom soup before getting on a train for a weekend away. That tuna has been sitting in the cupboard for ages, am opting to eat this for lunch this week rather than buying more fresh ingredients for sandwiches, already have sufficient cooked ham and chicken for 10 school lunches (5 days at one each) for £1. I always get this deal in Sains, two small packs of cooked meat for £1, down from £1.40.

Sat -- will be eating out for the first time in a while.

Sun -- will be on a train back so planning to get best value takeaway tea I can, something healthy.

I know fish fingers followed by burgers isn't the best nutrition going but I've been cooking fresh, balanced meals for months and I'm happy to turn to the freezer when pushed for time.
  • £400 for us this month....4 weeks actually
£60pw groceries including dog food (3 always hungry labradors)
    £25pw fuel
£15pw booze (this is the one that will go down as we are both cutting out the glass of wine/bottle of beer while cooking/eating each evening).

Back from a rainy week in Portugal late Friday night, 66p in Te$co on the way home from the airport, two seabass fillets and three curry side dishes...bargain, £33.99 in A£DI on Saturday, NSD Sunday and today :) hope to have NSD right through until Saturday when I will do another A£DI shop. Under budget so far......long way to go thou! SG
