When I was a student (and just after graduating when I had no money at all thanks to extortionate rent in london) we used to find the shop that sold the most cheap noodles for a pound (the packet ones with the sachet of flavouring). I lived off of those for about 6 months. 1 for breakfast, 1 for lunch and 1 for dinner. Also in winter when we were too skint to run the heating we used to go to the sunbed places and either ask for price list and deliberately get chatting to person behind the desk or pretend we were waiting on someone before going for a sunbed. It always worked and those places are like saunas. I also used to be really good at blagging freebies from the make-up counters in department stores. Not going to confess the line I used to use (its bad!) but it worked every single time and I didn't have to buy moisturiser or foundation for ages.
CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. You can enjoy it even if you don't understand it and too much can give you a headache the next day J

Also I donated blood to get free biscuits and tea as I was hungry and had no money.

When i was in Germany with the Army in the early 90's a load of squaddies would sell their blood!!! I used to get 50 marks (about £20) per pint back then which would then get blown on a night out and a kebab!!!

(It didn't take much to get p*ssed either as you wre light headed after giving a couple pints of blood!)
  • When I first got married we were so skint that I used to count the slices of bread in a loaf to see how long I could make it last. Think it was 10p bread too!
We were so skint we lived in a caravan in my DH's Dads drive for 18 months as we couldn't afford the rent on a flat- there was no toilet, only a bucket which we used to empty down the drain in his driveway.

Yes, I'd forgotten that! I fainted once on the way out of the blood clinic as all I'd eaten all day were the free tea and biccies they'd given me and I was so light headed. Imagine if I'd gone to the pub after that! (If only they'd paid to donate blood I'd have been there every day!)

We used to get £2.50 worth of petrol in a can and divide it between our two cars very regularly.

At the same time, my car, an old Escort, had no wotking heating, at 7.00 in the morning in December it was so damn cold I put a hot water bottle on my lap when I drove to work. I couldn't do this on the way back though, it was very cold and dark.

This was when we first married and lived in a converted shed. Complete with a Baby Belling, cold shower, macerator toilet, the lot. We used a plastic washing up bowl when we wanted a wash and used the kettle to fill it up. Our kitchen curtain was a pinned up tea-towel.
A minute at the till, a lifetime on the bill.

Nothing tastes as good as being slim feels.

    one life, live it!
  • When I was a student I used to live on a packet of Minstrels a day....Mind you I was a size 8 and 2 stone lighter than I am now:rolleyes:

My mate used to feed herself, hubby and baby Weetabix for breakfast dinner and tea for a full week before payday every month. All the Mother and Toddler group took pity on her and used to invite her for lunch etc. She's now paid off her mortgage and has a couple of extra properties which she rents out whilst the rest of us are still struggling to pay our mortgages!!! She's still wearing the same clothes she wore back in the early 90's too - so I guess she's just very frugal.
