Put £2.35 worth of petrol in the car (all in 5,10's & 20's)so I could get home, and then resign myself to that fact that I wouldn't be able to drive anywhere for about a week until I got paid.
I mastered the "Left my purse at home & that's all the change I've got in the car" line to the sales attendant.
Little did he know there was no purse at home, and that was all the change I had in my life!0 -

I've done the taking toilet roll from work before. Also went hungry for a day and a half until I got paid - I really had ran out food at that point (promised never to let it happen again)!!

when i was at uni & skint- (some things dont change!) i did some very embarassing things- things NOBODY knows about me!
1) Lied to a police man that someone had stolen my purse when they hadnt- i didnt have any money left & the bank had just swallowed my card so i couldnt actually get home! So the police man took pity on me & gave me a lift!
2)Lived on tap water for a whole week whilst waiting for some money to come through from my grant
3)tried lap dancing, posed nude for a smutty magazine & even considered ebing an escort (didnt follow through with the escort thing thankfully!)
Oh the shame!!Now im debt free i want to be fat free too!0 -
I was so skint many years ago in the era of "gratis points" in cigarettes. I worked in the processing factory and stole loads of points to take to index to swap for a toaster which I sold for a fiver to buy some food with. I was on abourt 2.31 an hour then , part time, and after Id finished uni. I got rumbled
so I left the job and never went back _pale_
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
This is such a great thread! I can relate to all of these posts
I've nicked toilet rolls from work too, plus run birthday cards through the franking machine cos I didn't have enough money for a stamp. Oh I've also nicked lightbulbs from the store cupboard in work cos we'd been sat in the dark the night before (I really hope my boss isn't reading this!)
Been there with the franking machine, especially at christmas. Also not so long ago keep the postage stamps on letters that weren't stamped and re-use them. mail always got to them. Also popping over to the inlaws for there soups/currys/chillies and chicken and would last us for a while.
Great threads by the way.:A Tomorrow's just another day - keep smiling0 -
When I was really skint and renting a room, I used to live on mashed potato for weeks! Also found out how to fiddle the (very archaic) tampax machine at work which dispensed 2 at a time so that could get unlimited quantity for free! I had a second job at the time in a pub and used to give the guys there free drinks on a saturday afternoon and in return they would buy me drinks on nights when I didn't work.
:rolleyes:0 -
Smash + Corned beef = Corned beef hash that was my diet for about three weeks one particularly bad month.
(although it wasn't even proper smash it was that dreadful supermarket's own make stuff!)
I've pinched toilet rolls from work many a time I'm embarassd to say. I have also sneakily decanted the office milk supply into a tupperware flask to take home and regularly used to offload various office stationary cupboard supplies at car boot sales (although that was when I could afford the extortionate 8 quid it cost to get in!)
I also now make a habit of keeping the reciepts of everything I buy that might be returnable in an emergancy. Only last month I made a life saving return of a vase and a steamer which got me back £60 that I should never have spent!
Although if I do that too much I'll start being banned from shops!0 -
I spent a full 6 months eating at my parents house for dinner, on the weekends I was there for breakfast, lunch and dinner. They just thought I was lonely (being a single mum) and I wanted company with my dd. Just use to buy milk and a box of cereal, own brand ones too for my house.
I use to take an extra loo roll from work and lots of other places :embarasse
I also use to tell my mum I had lost my bank card or the machine said I was using the wrong number then she would offer me money say £5
Have used all the coppers in the house and have ebayed so so much
Thankfully with payplan and have a completely different life now
