There was an article about the Brook Advisory centre in the Grauniad, circa 1965.
Ah well we have the internet these days, so we are so much better informed?0 -
at the end of the month, mums freezer would be almost empty except for the odd chicken drummer, fish fingers, waffles and maybe a couple of 'pot luck' pies (pot luck cos u had no idea what was in them....this became a monthly treat for us named 'the mix up'!! usually served with the last can of beans or tin of tomatos.

Easy. Tried to overdose. Though I imagine plenty would prefer to see that because then I wouldn't be such a burden to the world in general. Whatever crime I committed, none that I know of, to get to that point. Oh, well, least it taught me people get away scot free with crimes and victims get to live with the feelings for the rest of their lives. Oh hum. Funny old world. I mean, you help someone out in life and what do they do in return back to you. Like I said, funny old world.Any help, opinions, views I may hold those are my own. Respect them as you would expect the same in return. Offered freely, is gleaned from a lifetime of experiences, knowledge gaining. Passed on to benefit others. I may be direct, ask you questions but those are to help you. Up to you if you choose to take it. I won't judge you either way.

Yes, it started in 1964 but obviously not every town had one. When our local one opened we didn't need the internet, the news spread like wildfire. Talk about women's lib.Sell £1500

2nd to my post
lived in a 2 berth caravan for a year cos OH worked in construction and i wanted to be with him. we were on proper sites with facilities....except one farm site in the midlands we were at for 2 months......cue washing my hair under tap outside, ( we had no shower or lav in our caravan) going to the local swimming baths for a wash as they has a shower cubicle with a lock on. and as for going to the loo (you know what i mean)....there was a hospital on the road to the farm,i'd just go into the disabled loos, my body just got used to 'going' at that time ( i was temping in the local town). other than this site I've told one other friend about this x0 -
Rather than pay 75p bus fare each way each day I used to walk for 90 minutes to and from uni. Most days it was quicker than taking the bus because of the volume of traffic. This continued into my first job where my boss took one look at the state of my shoes and ordered my several pairs of horrific safety boots. My first new shoes in over 3 years.
I also lived in a very very cheap house from which we were later evicted as squatters. I thought we were unofficially subletting. Mind you £50 for a 3 bed house should have raised a few questions when elsewhere friends were paying £250 a room. I did turn down another place where the rent was free providing I'd entertain the geriatric landlord on a Saturday night. I do have some standards, although admitedly very low ones.
I worked the open till shut shift in a pub at minimum wage and got fed 3 meals a day, usually chips, chips and more chips. Flirting with the punters kept me in free drinks and then the boss used to give me the cash for a taxi home. Taxi used to drop me at the main road for £1 from where I'd either catch a bus or walk home dependent on the weather saving a whole £3. Not to be recommended at midnight in winter through some of the more salubrious estates in Bristol.
Blue paper towels from petrol station forecourts are not to be recommended as an alternative to loo roll. Nor is ordinary A4 paper a substitute for rizzlas although it is an entertaining way to watch a friend reshape their eyebrows.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500 -
