I mixed it in a bowl and then stood looking at the tin for about 10 minutes debating greasing and lining it, but thought, I'd better stick to what the instructions say.

It's been in 30 mins and is still very runny in the middle. :( I used a deep 7inch round cake tin so it might take a bit longer to cook through as it will be quite tall. Was gonna slice it in half and fill with butter cream in the middle and on the top.

I'll just have to wait and see how it comes out. Worst case scenario it won't look pretty but hubster and I will still enjoy it!

i think mine actually took over an hour to cook rather than 30-40 minutes!!! when i took it out after 30 i was like  it was like a chocolate mud pie wibble wobble!!!

so yeah - might take longer! sorry - i forget all these useful tips!!!! :rotfl:

How did you make your buttercream icing C-R? Ive only got about 50g of plain choc in the house. Do you think butter, icing sugar, the plain chocolate and a bit of cocoa powder would work?

my buttercream I made without real chocolate as I didn't have it so it was:

100g butter -creamed (with a fork by me -wow it was a tough job!)
    200g sieved icing sugar
and i chucked in some cocoa - maybe a tablespoon or two?

    and mixed!!!!

    tasted good!! mmmm :D

Cheers Hun. I'll do that then and save the chocolate for something else. Been in 45 mins and still a bit wobbly!

it will go so the knife goes in and comes out clean eventually!!! :rotfl: yeah - maybe try 15 minutes more then take it from there in 7 minute intervals?

and why not eat the chocolate while making the buttercream!!!!!!!! haha!! You've earned it!

Or save it for a cravings day?

The chocolate is just plain cooking chocolate, not so yummy just for a treat.:( I'm gonna save it for the next time I make brownies.

I'll keep you updated on cake cook time!:rotfl:

Cake update: It's out and cooling. Total time in oven, 1 hour 26 minutes!!!! I think a shallower tin next time would be better. It might be a bit over done on the edges.
  • Just put my egg less choc cake in oven :) I made half the quantity and used a loaf tin and 7" tin but I don't think the 7" will work as there is not enough mixture in it.

The bubbling of the vinegar and bicarb in the mixture was a bit different! I am not sure if you are suppose to get it in the oven whilst the reaction is still taking place, but I took so long fiddling with tins and lining them, it had stopped bubbling when I used it - We shall see I will report back later :)
  • A chemical reaction in the mixture! that sounds amazing iammumtoone!!! I can't remember that but I have to be honest - i wasn't really looking too closely - i was a bit tired when making so just dumping and going!!!

Look forward to your report!!!!!!! :)

Yes it took me a bit by surprise but then I realised I do the same thing ,mix vinegar and bicarb down the plug hole to clean it out, it always fizzes up then!

40 mins in oven, loaf tin nowhere near done but sandwich tin cooked, its only about 1cm high lol. I am sure it will taste fine, I'll probably brake it up into bits and serve with ice cream like a sundae later.

    Well here it is guys!

It's an absolute whopper. It's definitely over baked around the edge so I've absolutely slathered it in buttercream to combat that. I'd definitely use a shallower tin for next time.

Mum to one , looking forward to seeing how yours turns out. I contemplated the loaf tin as well but had already made up the mixture and it never would have fitted.
