KolaKube - i definitely agree - home baking is more of a hobby for me than anything else! And if baking a chocolate cake stops me from going out to the shops to buy a sweet treat then like you say - it can make a day an NSD which is the best ever feeling!!!!
I love the idea of weighing the eggs - thats the Victoria sponge cake way isnt it? but doing it for a Yorkshire pudding - I'm going to try that next time as my yorkies have been a bit flat recently!!!!

The other way it's MSE is keeping yourself busy so you're not tempted to go on eBay and buy thing!! Well it is for me anyway!! :rotfl:

I will make that egg less choc cake as like you point out I have almost* everything, I have never attempted one before. I did taste one a while back and it was gorgeous.
* this is certainly not going to be MSE the first time as I don't have a tin that large so will need to buy one however I have wanted one for a while so this in an ideal excuse.0 -

Yes yorkshires are so much easier by weight, weigh egg add the same weight of flour and the same weight of milk and pinch of salt. Best of all only one bowl/jug to wash up as it all goes in together0 -
iammumtoone - hope the cake comes out good!!! It's a low-clean up recipe too - you mix all the ingredients in the cake tin! I did miss some of the flour from the edges so next time I would use a spatula to get all the flour mixed into the liquid batter!
Others might mix it in a bowl then pour into the cake tin but then there's one extra thing to wash up! Madness!!!!!!!!

Thanks what size/type tin did you use? It says to use a square one? I only have standard 7" size cake tins or loaf tins0 -
It's handy as you can still make a wee sponge even if you have the wrong number of eggs etc, it keeps everything in proportion... sometimes I make up just a little two egg sponge, pour it over drained tinned fruit in an oven dish (peaches, pear or similar) and bake to make a wee pudding with custard.
Or you can make up a one egg sponge and microwave it in a cup (can't remember how long for though, it isn't long!) for an individual pud even if you've only the one egg lol.
Don't forget chocolate sponge is just replacing a proportion of the flour with cocoa powder (off the top of my head about a quarter)! And if you're doing that then you have to make your custard chocolate with cocoa powder too, that's the law I'm afraid
If you've syrup in, warm it slightly and pour a wee bit of that over plain sponge out of the oven.
Or put in raisins, cherries, or any frozen fruit (blueberries, raspberries etc) before you bake. Or chocolate chips!
Spice it up with mixed spice / ginger and use soft brown sugar instead of white.
The sponge possibilities are endless!

I only have 1 round one - think its a 20cm round one - deep - i bake everything in it!!!(except the xmas cake - I have a giant one for that one!!!!) even bread!!! best to use a loose base tin if you have one!!

I've read about those sponges in cups - they sound amazing!!!

You should be fine with either of those, just make sure there's enough room to allow for the rise. I rarely buy new tins, just make do with what I've got.0
