A warning on Tesco Clubcard points and vouchers - 'expired' vouchers policy change

Two years might be adequate for you, but it isn't for a lot of people. Just try getting enough together for something larger, such as a holiday.
Can you give me one good reason for any time limit at all (other than Tesco's desire to claw back money)?
Clawing back what money?
The scheme can be used by everyone. There's no limit. Even if you only earned a £1 voucher every two years you can still, as an absololute minimum, get that taken off the cost of your shopping. There is no minimum spend. So if you your £1 voucher against a 10p item, that 90p would go back to your clubcard account.
If you can't save for the holiday in two years then use them towards something else. Someone else will be able to save towards a holiday in two years.
It's like me saying I can't save for an Aston Martin in two years, why do they make them? Someone else can afford them.
I fail to see how you're being hard done by.0 -
OP tries to save every one money on a money saving site and everyone rebels?
Are Tesco or are Tesco not taking (previously available) benefits away from the customer? Just answer the Q?0 -
2 Years is adequate...how much more time do people need?
Some people may be saving them up for a larger purchase such as a holiday or piece of jewellery or an iPad.“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -

I'm glad you said that! The post was intended to draw attention to Tesco's policy change on revalidating expired vouchers (that's to say, they no longer will) and frankly I'm amazed to see people supporting the ever-rapacious Tesco instead of the customers it's taking something away from!
On a money-saving website that does seem just a little bizarre, and I'm beginning to wonder if Tesco are using their staff (or paying agencies) to post in order to try to massage their image.0 -
Already done, long ago.
When they revamped the Clubcard scheme to reduce the value of the points some time back I took a long hard look at the scheme and decided that a tiny percentage back through Clubcard really wasn't worth having, compared with savings of around 30% with Aldi. What Aldi don't sell is easily obtainable from Waitrose, and Waitrose (for just a little more than Tesco) is streets ahead on both quality and customer service. Much nicer customers, too.
Tesco's now the shop of last resort in this neck of the woods. Horrible store, not very nice staff, and the Aldi that opened next door to it has taken a large chunk of its trade. Waitrose took a chunk too, when that opened. At least the Tesco store is a lot less crowded than it used to be!
I have to agree with you.
I used to shop at Tesco when they took money off coupons without inspecting every inch of them and referring to the supervisor.
I now shop at Waitrose most of the time, free coffee, free newspaper and much better quality food. Their prices have come down a lot recently as well.
I think they have changed their policy on the club card vouchers to stop people being more able to pay in full for things with them.0 -

They have also changed their policy on this as well.
Last time I looked the T&cs stated that no more than 50% can go back on, to stop people from doing just that.0 -

I don't much shop at Tesco any more, actually. Aldi and Waitrose provide the perfect combination. Still getting points from petrol, though, and there are still some vouchers from the past.
Not sure I can see why it was 'generous' of Tesco under the old policy to let me keep my own money.
This was more of a warning to other people than anything else.
I'm glad you choose not to shop at Tesco anymore! Wouldn't want to be in the same "space" as someone so misguided.
Well said Sarah1972!! I totally agree with your comments.
2 years expiry is more than the majority of voucher expiry dates - the majority being 6 months so be grateful for your "bonus" or shut up!0 -

Thank you for your helpful and charming comments. If you represent the typical Tesco 'loyal customer' I'm also delighted that we use different shops - I've always found the average Waitrose and Aldi customer rather nicer, rather more pleasant, than the average Tesco customer.
Be grateful for my bonus or shut up? Tesco must love customers like you.0 -
I don't spend enough to get many vouchers, to be honest - £4-5 a year, if I'm lucky. I know I'm going off at a tangent, here, but my main gripe with Tesco is their customer service. I find myself being grateful when any of them are nice to me! The worst are probably the ones who work at the CS desk, followed by those on the check outs. Given I never buy enough to warrant a trolley, I always use the self scan which - unless it blows a gaff - means I don't need to communicate with anyone.
It is a shame when someone is trying to be helpful and gets unpleasant responses. You may disagree but could be nice about it?!0
