The only thing my phone does that my ipad mini doesnt is cellular calls and text messages. iMessage, Facetime, skype, whatsapp, email i use the iPad mini for.
The screen doesnt need to be any bigger, if you need specs to see writing on a screen than use your specs, it's what your optician would expect!

Why do you have an Ipad mini then?
Simply the iphone screen is too small (compared to its rivals)for the features of a supposed high end phone

because I was buying books that i was then leaving around the house before i dropped a load at a charity shop.
I had magazine subscriptions that I would read, then leave around the house until they all went in the recycling as i didnt have space to keep them

so primarily for ibooks/kindle app and news-stand.

I travel a lot on trains and like to watch films, ipad mini is a great screen size for doing that.
and with my photography, its a great screen size to show people photos without having to print them all out or boot up a computer.

the iPhone screen size for me is perfect for what it does.
The normal sized iPad was too expensive for me to consider. The iPad mini was the right price and size for what i wanted.
  • Why bother changing?

It looks to me that smartphone development has reached a plateau and whilst the processor speed is up I reckon all but a very small minority will not even notice what improvement it makes to the phone.

What I want out of a smartphone is the ability to make crystal clear calls anywhere as well as a variety of useful apps and that regretfully the former is down to the mobile networks so you will still find your call dropping at the most annoying time even on your shiny new Iphone

If all phone makers, and i include samsung and nokia and lg and blackberry etc in this, decided to put all their latest technology into their next handset, imagine the research they would have to do for the next handset, they couldnt do it. I'm sure all these companies have features and designs all queued up, and each year they all do the least they think they need to to launch the "must have device." some companies do a lot, some maybe misjudge it and do too little, but im sure none of them want to put all their eggs in the one basket, because otherwise they're gonna need a load more eggs the following year...

Absolutely. After Steve Jobs died we were told that there were designs for several years worth of Apple products already approved.

Presumably then you have a jailbroken iPad Mini? Many people will want to use theirs without any modification.

The thing I use my phone most for are calls & texts.
I only need specs to read small writing .
  • It seems that smartphones have reached the stage where their specs outweigh the requirement for them and higher specs will just make developers sloppy in their programming, not optimising for hardware.

Smartphones do not need the new octa core processors on the way. A dual core iPhone runs any cross platform app just as well as a quad core android phone, as it has been optimised well.

If screens in general (not saying the iPhone wouldn't benefit from a slightly larger screen) get any bigger then they will cease being phones and will become tablets, which is fine, but for me I would get a tablet for such things as I want my phone to fit in my pocket.

Bit like the average home pc then. :)

A work mate has the current Apple phone, he's on his 4th one in 11 mths.
Quality for £45+ a month, used for Gumtree and Youtube videos at break times, then moans about the cost of living. :(

    (Sorry bad day) :)
    Move along, nothing to see.
