  • Hello EE & Kerri , I'm not keen on new builds I have one as a BTL and you can't swing a cat in it. I have been round dozens and the only ones I like inside I hate outside as there is lack of garden & parking & privacy! But I was still wanting to be nosey this morning seeing what I could get with my money :o:D

I have also had a house on a council estate (my first bought home) and it was a beautiful house with a huge garden. I had huge problems with the neighbours, there was only a handful of us that had bought our homes and we were looked down upon by the people in the council houses (can you believe that ??) My son was badly picked on and was only tiny at the time and as I was only 23 I also had a fair few arguments with neighbours. One told me I should f*** off back where I came from and leave the houses for locals who need them. Think they failed to grasp if I hadn't have bought it someone else would have done. And whilst my accent is southern I was brought up only 15 miles from where the house was :rotfl: eejits! :rotfl:SO anyway long story short, I am pretty wary about buying on a council estate again :(.

I prefer older houses though, Victorian, Edwardian etc so am happy to buy a terrace if big enough inside and out :) so I will definitely have a look at those next time as I also know they are cheaper than new builds so will surely get more for my money there :).

As for the part loan thing the government do am also wary of that (even more after your story EE) as my friend bought a house like this 10 years ago and is kind of tied into living there now as she has no capital thanks to the boom then crash! She bought at the height of it and now it's worth less than when she bought it so has to stay put until she has saved to buy out the other shares, think she did the popular 50/50 scheme if you remember that? She buys half then she rents half? Something along those lines. I bought my house at the same time as her and made £44k (what a twit I was not saving it :() and her house was the same price as mine and she has made none!

Sorry I shouldn't have said estate - more road!!
I would never live on a council estate, I have always been lucky with my council houses as the first one was right on the outskirts of an estate next to fields and this one is in the middle of the country - I almost hyperventilate when I have to go to a town!!!!

I was thinking of where my mum lives - she is in a village 3 miles from the nearest town (walkable with nice paths) and in her road of 30 houses only 6 are council and the rest are private.

Or I agree with Kerri, a nice edwardian terrace - they are like Tardis'!!!!
  • I can't sleep grrr. Ran out of lives on CC so thought I'd catch up on here ;)

I appear to have lost the instructions to the breadmaker, yes already, so I've put the bread on but couldn't use the timer! It'll be cooked around 2.30, I suppose if I'm still awake I get to taste it warm otherwise I will just have to try it cold :rotfl: job for tomorrow is to try and find it!! I've got awful endo pains tonight and paracetamol isn't touching it. I suppose the upside is I can nap all day tomorrow if I so please :D. ..DS2 is laid in bed next to me and I've left him, he's told me that he's too small for big school and doesn't want to stay for lunch or afternoon play. This week might be fun then eh  I'll miss him and it seems he'll miss me too :)

P.s the fruit loaf turned out ok I think, not eaten it yet but as I remembered to put the kneading knife in this time it's all mixed up properly and has risen so this I'm taking as a good sign it will taste ok :rotfl: let's hope the bread is ok too even if a little cold :p

DFW - Do be careful should you decide to buy a Victorian house and factor in cost for renovation work (must admit I'm a little confused as to your housing situation, if I have read this right you have 2 BTLs but rent yourself?). However, it's not all doom and gloom on the old house front - the rooms are MUCH bigger, you can find ones with wonderful period features and each house is pretty much unique. :)

On another note those blackberries look delicious, though I didn't know you could freeze them?

  • I've got one btl and we rent as we get cheap housing on an army estate (which I hate :D lol) we are looking to settle pretty soon where I grew up so we need the deposit saved and ready for when our credit rating returns good again :o

I goggled it about freezing blackberries :) you wash them and place them on a tray/something flat and stick in freezer overnight once frozen you can bag up until needed :D

Bread this morning....this little loaf lasted all of 20 mins  it made the toast for the kids and 2 sandwiches and there is only 2 slices left!! I think I may need to invest in a proper bread cutting tool :rotfl:!!! Granted it's only a 2lb loaf so wasn't going to last long with all of us but I think I should have probably got more slices than I did :o!

I finally got to sleep around 1am :( after taking 2 (more) painkillers. Hoping these pains bog off in a few days!

Kids are all at school ALL day :D:(. DS2's teacher made a bee line for me asking me what DS2 had so far said about school and if he had been enjoying it. Apparently he's been very stubborn and not done anything he's been asked (unless he wanted to do it) I had to tell her he's always like this. He won't sit down for carpet time and listen to the story and he's already told me he isn't staying for lunch today so i've told her to watch him as he will just try to leave himself ! I don't see a problem with him, he's not rude he is just stubborn, I hate the way schools try to make you conform to everything and all be the same, annoys me and besides there are ways of getting around him you just have to know how. I like the fact he has spunk (for want of a better word?!) and knows what he wants at the tender age of 4! He was really good this weekend though and tidied my front room for me and asked me to tell his teacher, so he is obviously keen to impress and guess what, I forgot to tell her :doh:I will make a point of seeing her later or tomorrow morning! :)

It's raining here today and freezing! Jumpers out for school and raincoats! no heating yet though will try and last till end of October, i've friends who've put their heating on already

DS1 has a date!! He's only been at the new school for a week and he's got a few admirers :kisses2::happyloveHe is going to the cinema I think this weekend to watch Insidious (even though he's not quite 15 until October so not sure if he will get in?!) I've got him BOGOF tickets for the 0de0n so it shouldn't cost too much :) and if they don't get in they could always go and watch Planes, I've heard that is very good too :rotfl::rotfl:

Fish'n'Chips for dinner tonight. Something easy as i'm exhausted. I was going to come home and nap but I think that will just mess me up for later and i'll end up not sleeping tonight either. I've currently got a full fat milk & hot chocolate drink with some ovaltine sprinkled in for good measure and it tastes delicious and is hitting the spot nicely :) I feel so sick I can't eat anything so this will fill me up for now (and the half a slice of toast I stole of ds1's plate this morning ;))

I'm going to go to the PO today with red card in hand this time :o and pop to Dun3lm on the way back. I bought some spice jars from FB for £2 (13 of them) and they need some cheap labels/stickers putting on them. I can finally then sort out my herb/spice cupboard as we buy so many in packets rather than glass jars that they have spilled all over the cupboard :( making a huge mess. I'm determined to sort out my kitchen !!

I hope everyone is well :)

Yay for sorting out the kitchen, it is afterall kitchen day today :D (psst you haven't put up your list :p) OH does exactly the same thing with the bread and I get super annoyed with him, if he's left to cut it himself he'll eat an entire loaf within two slices. He also declared to me this morning that we shall need to put the heating on soon, to which I replied "not until October, or the temperature drops to single figures". I like a nice warm house, but he likes to wander around in shorts and tshirt when it's snowing outside...urm I think not mister. Just checked metcheck and it's forecast double figures in the morning for the next week at least :D

  • Kerri my internet crashed just as I was searching for the new thread  Panic over after re-setting the box :rotfl:

    Monday - Kitchen
    15 Minutes..

Wipe out the fridge, note what needs using up or restocking
    30 minutes to spare..
    Sweep and mop the floor
Wash out the washing machine drawer
    Got an hour...
Wipe the surfaces, removing things which don't belong here as you go
Are the spiders coming in from the cold, go on a cobweb hunt

    Extra challenge:
Choose your messiest drawer and give it a good tidy, wipe out if you have the time
Renew library books, fill in that form you've been meaning too, check for birthdays in the next few weeks.

Be back later to attack the kitchen :D off out to do the jobs outside of the house first!:)
