  • Morning DFW,

Sounds like you have it all planned out. Fingers crossed you have no unexpected things to pay for.

Yay to the YNAB free trial. I am loving it already. I have still got 25 days left on my free trial so I am going to try to sneak it in my February budget somewhere because I am hooked now.
It so pretty and simple to use (Once you get used to it). Watch a few video's on the Support page, they really helped me with finding the best set up for me.
Because we are weekly paid, I had to set it up a certain way so that it worked for me.

If you have a spreadsheet that does the same, I guess it won't be worth the expense, but my spreadsheet was dismal and after using it for nearly two years it obviously was'nt working.

My spreadsheet is more just like a bank statement and abit of forecasting, it didn't make me concentrate on what this current paycheck had to do. If that makes sense.

Keep us updated with how you get on xxx

Ha there is always unexpected spends, I have them every month :rotfl:suppose at least it won't be a surprise when I get them this time!

I've just watched benefit streets again and it didn't impress me the attitudes of most of them. Won't say much more because I could rant on that subject for a long time!

One of the girls I childmind has gone home ill, she was looking pale yesterday and I told her mum but seems she's actually been sick now at school. So one down and I will only have 4 little ones and a teenager today.

I've spent hours on google today reading about people who are looking for mortgages after finishing a dmp. It's not looking promising but i'm keeping an open mind. We intend to have at least 10% deposit ready and i'm happy to buy smaller than we'd like until our financial situation improves in a few years. But I don't really want to rent unless all other doors are closed to us. I'd rather be paying down a mortgage than lining a landlord's pocket . So worst case I was looking at cheap cheap houses that potentially we could have a 20% deposit for quite easily. Would mean us moving again in a few years but hopefully by then I will have a full time job/income and we will at least be settled in the area we want to bring the kids up in. Can you see the irony in this too.....all the houses that were cheaper and in "ok" areas were actually identical to the house we are in because they are ex-military :rotfl: so I would be swapping this house for one the same (although the plus side being it would be ours and their gardens are around 3 times bigger as they are more rural areas). I had a little laugh at the irony of my situation anyway :rotfl::cool:.

  • Well well I had put £30 into a saving account for myself (from my personal pocket money fund) for a day out with a friend in a few months and guess what...i've just spent £25 of it :o It was on a want rather than a need too, urgh! Oh well, I now have a pair of wellies on order that i've been eyeing up since they went on sale (at full price) last season :p they were in the sale and had £15 off and I got 5% CB through TCB. So that's ok, right? :o:p

The way things are going, wellies are more a need than a want..
So have fun splashing in puddles! :D

ps. Quite understand about the other thing - keeping digits crossed the problem resolves to your satisfaction. ;)
  • I love my wellies. Money well spent.
    Trying to shift that debt!
  • Totally agree, the Wellies were definitely a need rather than a want ! Well we can pretend they are cant we ?!!

Its if you decide that you now need some rather fetching Wellie Socks to go with them that you could be in trouble !

    Have a lovely day x

  • :j yay I feel better now someone's agreed with me :rotfl: DH will still insist it's a want ha. My wellies are huge though to be fair so perhaps I can angle it as a need :p I wear DS1's old school wellies after he outgrew them (as my nice flowery pair got a hole in them after 6 months! Only cheapy ones though they were :))

I was umming and ahhing over wellie socks too :rotfl: how did you guess :rotfl:. I decided against it as it would have pushed me over the £30 i'd put aside and I had no money in my current account spare :o.

I'm currently watching down under with a cuppa to warm my hands....and thinking about Gargrave...the one that got away! Lucky her I hope she's still doing well :).

Army redundancy is being rolled out again today. DH was told he wasn't entitled last time, so I doubt he will be this time. Still i'm going to get him to check anyway ;). My friend is hoping her hubby is entitled as he was the last time round but he didn't apply for it. It's an easy profitable way out of the army for those who want to leave anyway so I expect there are a lot of applications . That would be a 10% deposit on a lovely house....hmm oh well I will keep my fingers crossed for my friend but I'm not getting hopes up for us as I think DH will be told no anyway!

I've checked banking and pending on the current account. All looks clear so far and i'm hoping I have enough money put aside for the v1rgin bill, it's been astronomical the last few months . Considering we never ever use the t.v bit of it and rarely use the phone and it's only the internet really we use I think going on for £50 every month is absolutely ridiculous! When the contract is up I'm buying a freeview (with record, rewind, pause etc) and cancelling the t.v package! I think we will go with someone else for internet and maybe house phone (it's only used for when our mums call us )

Anyway, another epic ramble from me :rotfl: sorry :o will go off and check everyone elses news (and checked phone earlier and pleased to see Granny has got her op date :T)

Keep the house 'phone - improves your credit score for mortgage application. ;)

£50pcm for home internet seems ridiculously pricey for UK..?
  • Oh does it?! I didn't realise it would have any impact on the credit score, thanks for telling me :T

The £50 is for t.v, phone & internet but as we had just left sky they kept ringing us trying to get us back and they offered us a full package for free on the t.v for 6 months. We get free movies & all the kids shows so we use our sky box rather than the v1rgin box :o (I couldn't get used to the v1rgin remote i'm not very technically minded :p )
