Hi DFw, :hello:
Gawd; playground politics have got much worse since my day - don't envy you having to deal with the Mummies..
Keeping fingers crossed for your call from Lady re carpets (but must say I'd replace 'em. Long-soaked in, dried urine will be right through the underlay as well - yuk. You'll have a better chance of attracting a responsible tenant if everything's fresh and clean/new. Good karma to put the effort in now).
Can you claim Old T's Bond to contribute to making good the damage?
It occurs to me that as you're living in quarters, there will be lots of families with similar xmas gift storage problems. Can you approach someone in authority and see if there is an unused storage space which could be made available?
Failing that, if DD catches a glimpse of the huge box, maybe you could tell her it's a kennel for Duke's xmas pressie?
I've got the same feeling on the carpet. I would feel awful handing it over to someone knowing how it had been treated especially if they have small children playing on that carpet:eek: I am calling her in a mo to see what's the crack. Hoping to get the decorators in as soon as possible (hoping the quote won't break my bank before the carpet has even been looked at!)
I'm really hoping the box comes before the kids get home. I'm going to hide it in my car boot and then try and transfer to our garage. Our garage is about a mile away from where we live and I never use it because the lock is broken and I can't get it open without a fighthence I didn't mention it because I always forget it's there! DH uses it mainly for kit and I use it for furniture that doesn't fit in the house
. I will send DS1 over there to get it open as DH has shown him the *trick* of getting it open and closed. We'd normally hide it in the loft but I don't go up there and DS1 wouldn't be able to lift it so we'll chance our luck with the dodgy garage door:rotfl:

Do you remember a while back i was singled out in the playground as a nasty person. Well i am very much in favour now and the lady spreading the rumours is very much stayed away from. They all saw her true colours and came back groveling! Hoping your playground situation improves soon
I too am waiting on a parcel so trying to get all those jobs i have been putting off done whilst i am at home.Me, DD1 20, DS 17, DD2 14, Debt Free 04/18, Single Mum since 11/190 -
Well the playground was ok. I turned up late anyway as I was trying to be out of the house for minimal time in case parcel arrived
I ended up with a chatterbox at home with me all day after the eldest girl I childmind ended up feeling sick in school! So we watched a movie and I knitted one square :T
Slm I'm glad your situation has improved I remember you talking about that!
Parcel turned up at 4 and the delivery man was very good he hid around the corner in case one of the kids saw the box :rotfl: we inspected the box together and realised there was no picture so I brought it in to the porch after declaring very loudly "yes of course I'll take it in for my neighbour" :rotfl::T kids weren't interested when they realised it wasn't for usI also received another parcel i'd been waiting for which wasn't due until Wednesday :T so means I won't miss it whilst on my course now
.
Another NSD here making 3 in a row I thinkwill need to spend tomorrow on youth club and milk. Also need to spend on Wednesday for my meditation class hoping to keep spends until Friday under £10 meaning I will have enough money to pay 1 cheque due out (the expensive one) and will only have to borrow £15 from the December budget to pay cheque 2

What a lovely delivery man, deserves a pat on the back and you also got a parcel early which makes a change.
Thank goodness my days of being a school mum are now over, didn't encounter any hostility but some of them where still at the school gates an hour later still talking, wish I had the time to stop and chat. :)x:j Debtfree and and staying that way.:j3-6 month emergency fund, No.61 £140.000 -

Hi DFW! I'm really impressed with how far you have come in your journey and now reading as your savings grow, I'm very inspired! Hopefully in a few months I will be joining you on an even bigger savings journey and leaving this debt around my neck behind! Congrats on your 3rd NSD in a row as well! :j I really should start joining in with some of these challenges - They seem like a great way to keep yourself on track and motivated...seeing it as a fun challenge rather than the ball and chains at your hands and feet probably helps a lot? :rotfl:Saved so far - £28,890.97

Hi DFw, :hello:
Very impressed at the calibre of big-box Delivery-Man. :T
 Maybe he's just discovered a great way of getting seasonal tips?
..Even if so; it was a very considerate action, so an appreciative email to DM's Boss wouldn't be out of place (might help get him a xmas bonus?).
Well done for deflecting kids' curiosity, DFw.0 -
Grrr to playground politics. Dont even get me started.I will be here forever.
For the last two years of DD2s days at Primary, I used to do a "drive by", i.e. pull out outside the school gate, open the door, sling her out, watch her walk into the playground and drive off. At pick up she would hover by the same gate and as I "drove by" again she jumped in. Therefore no need to stop and suffer it. My crime ? I dared to speak to someone the Mummy Posse had decided they didn't like, therefore they felt they had a right to tell me to do the same. If I didn't I apparently wasn't supporting them? !! In my refusal to do so, I then became Public Enemy Number 1 !! Seriously, they are worse than the kids themselves.
I had the last laugh though xxLBM July 2011 - Finally took control Nov 2011 DFD Sometime in the distant future !

Hello
Amber, Slm, Robin I agree it was lovely of him and I am going to send an email today. I was going to do it yesterday but forgot after kids went to bed  It was y0del that delivered not RM.
Pinot, I seriously thought people were over-reacting when they would re-tell horrors of the playground. As I said I never hung around the playground with DS1 I was always in a rush. Plus he went to a prep school and I used to be the youngest mum there, might I add *single mum * there actually;) this used to leave them wondering 1) how I afforded it and the house I had, 2) if I were after there husbands (no ta!) :rotfl: So I may have been the talk of the playground but only because I remained quite off-ish to them all (seeking information on me! Never a "would you like to meet up for a coffee/playdate with kids :rotfl:). I thought it may be different in a public school but I was wrong
they are all the same up and down and across the country :rotfl:. I walked in this morning and stood in the middle of the playground with my head held high and said nothing to no one. Probably the best way forward, me thinks?!
I've watched 3 hours of obsessive compulsive cleaners this morning whilst doing my own cleaning in the front room (did a deep clean today) and also wrapped up presents that had arrived since last week. Everything it sparkly clean but I felt quite inadequate compared to the ones on tele :eek::rotfl: I got up and started on the cookerI've now decided I need a steam cleaner! Wondering if I should ask DH for it for xmas for myself :rotfl: he'll think i'm crazy no doubt!
Today the eldest child is off sick still so i'm only looking after 2. I'm taking one of mine and one childminded one to youth club and so I will only have 2 to look after until 5pm :T and after that I will feed the other two and read with them and hopefully it will be home time for them. I feel wiped out again today, probably because i've just got over that bug thing last week and then tried to do everything that needed doing in one day . I never learn.
I have mince out for dinner but not much in really to make with itno pasta (can you believe it! I'm usually a hoarder of that!:rotfl:) and no red sauce (as DS2 calls it
) so am thinking mince, onions, stock & sliced potatoes over the top in a very quick, makeshift looking cottage pie type thing  (it looks nice in my head
).
i've got a professional in the house I rent out and she's deep cleaning the carpets. I was all set to replace them to be honest but they went and had a look and think it's not all that bad? I am not there so am trusting their opinion (well the lady who I have contact with, not the carpet cleaner as i'm sure they wouldn't turn work away ...) So I will find out later if that worked or not and that will be £60.....*fingers crossed* for a positive outcome. I then will try and harass the painter man to get in there quickly to give it a freshen up and finally get the keys off to the agents. I need to look into the DPS thing too I don't yet know how to claim on the bond. I will be charging for carpet cleaning, not sure if I can claim for repainting after she has left stains every where? And if not there is always the £1100 she owes in rent to claim from!
I'm half way through knitting Square no.2 as well :T it's definitely a winter hobby as i'm thoroughly enjoying it again (still not very good at it though :rotfl:)Mortgage Overpayments 2024/25 - September-December, £152.46. Welcome domayne *waves* :j
When I first joined here I joined in on the NSD thread and also the grocery challenge thread (on the Old style boards) and they are great for making you look at every single penny you spend :T I don't join in anymore but every month without fail I aim for 15 days in my head of NSD's and obviously still try and stick within my grocery budget for myself so it's very good for discipline
Since becoming DF i've become even more careful with the money as I know that not every spare penny I save is going on debtI know it's going into savings. Probably not the attitude to have and I could have gotten rid of the debt sooner if i'd been more disciplined
Good luck
