Belated Happy Birthday, DFw; hope you celebrate by finding the 'right' house this weekend - and many congrats to DS1 too, on winning a place at his school of choice! :T

    :bdaycake:
  • Thank you all :D:A:smileyhea

Well we had a busy and long day yesterday but it was great! The kids loved the city and thoroughly enjoyed house hunting with us :rotfl: DS1 stayed behind as it's too close to his exams now to be taking time off so he sorted the dog out before and after school. We all left at the crack of dawn so we could be up there before the first appointment, and we made it with lots of time to spare so had an amble around the area . We all loved the area of the 1st house although there is only a post office, school & village hall in the actual village  oh and a church! But it's very pretty with lots of stone cottages. I loved the area! The house itself needed a little bit of work....well by a little bit I mean totally refurbing (new kitchen/bathroom/carpets/painting throughout) it hadn't been very loved in the last few years and it showed . The second house smelled of cat wee  and that totally put me off- also it was too small the 4th bedroom was the 2nd reception so wasn't really suitable because of the layout. To be honest, the cat wee had put me right off anyway so I didn't really give it much of a chance :o and it was smack bang in the middle of an estate. Third house we got there just as the owners turned up- fresh from a funeral  then DS2 stole fruit from the fruit bowl and ran off to their trampoline :wall: I think by this point having been so good all morning he decided he wasn't going to play good anymore  the owner and I got chatting and turns out she'd just been to the funeral with my old chemistry teacher as it was a mutual friend that had died  what a small world huh! House was lovely and big and again needed a total re-dec. 4th house was too small and ds2 decided in this house he needed the loo. The estate agent took him off, ds2 sat on there 25 mins :wall: then we realised as it was a new house the water hadn't been switched on :o:o we ended up apologising profusely and leaving red-faced as we left the estate agent trying to figure out how to flush a rather big number 2 down the pipes :o:o (dh and I had already rushed around the house trying to find a tap or way to turn the water on to no avail....totally embarrassing! :rotfl:) House number 5 we cancelled. We drove up the front and it was awful :( not a nice area either so instead of waiting 2 hours for that appointment we just made a snap decision!

Then we spent a few hours with my sister and her boys and cousins got to know each other again. They haven't seen each other for so long they didn't know who each other was :(. So we discussed houses and turns out dh loved house number 1 as much as me (and the two kids loved it too) so we rang our mortgage broker and got him to put a cheeky offer in for us :T we're waiting to hear back now and we think it will be Monday onwards as it's not actually a family that own the house anymore. It was empty when we got there as it had been part exchanged so a large house building company own it now, as it needed a lot doing to it we decided to be quite cheeky in the first offer which means we have room to haggle ....obviously it's all fingers crossed now for a good outcome! I've just had to email bank statements across to the estate agent for him to forward with our proposal (which our mortgage broker wrote for us) and can I ask all my friends here to keep their fingers crossed :D I really hope it's a go-er and an offer that we can afford is accepted :T:T

I finished my birthday off with an Indian and a couple of glasses of wine too so a good day all round really :D

  • Sounds like a whirlwind of a day DFW.

Keeping my fingers crossed that your offer is accepted - how exciting for you all.

You would get used to living in a village with not much - we have a chapel and a pub (closed) in our village and I love it.
I grew up in a village and lived in a small town and now back in a tiny village and I much prefer it.
  • Thanks EE we are hopeful they will accept our first offer but obviously being realistic we've offered quite a low price so are prepared to move on that ;) thing is we actually don't have the money to pay full price for the house without borrowing from someone (not sure who?!) and then we'd need money to do the house up to a liveable standard (with my allergies at the very least we'd need new carpets and new bathroom as that was all broken)....it's exciting but i'm trying not to let my desperation to move get in the way as if it doesn't work out we'll be back to the drawing board!

The city is 7 miles away so it's no hardship living in a village again as I grew up in several villages not too far away from where we've seen :)

I've just got back from the opticians with the kids they were all well behaved! Now to catch up with washing and have a bit of a chilled out day I think xx

  • Sounds like a very productive day! Fingers crossed the offer is accepted.

I'm another one who lives in a village, though we have 3 pubs, a post office, a shop and a restaurant! Amazing really for such a tiny place!

  • Morning all!
I decided to hang my washing out this morning as the sun was actually in the back garden for a change...it's nearly blown away but I think it is drying (will leave it out until the sun starts disappearing).

The kids are super excited about moving and have been fighting about who is getting what bedroom :wall: I tried to tell them that the house isn't ours just yet and we may end up with a totally different one if our offer isn't accepted. That fell on deaf ears! :rotfl:

My fence that I put up when crazy neighbour took hers down is blowing away, literally. It was just bamboo and it has broken in several places. I am debating taking it down and just living with the fact the neighbours can see straight in or leaving it until it finally does completely snap and break away  . I'll be honest I have a list of outside jobs to do but it's just too cold for me and i keep putting them off :o

I am supposed to be going to a surprise family birthday party next weekend. DH's sister is organising it. DH can't make it so i have to take the kids myself, ds1 has a rugby match early the next day though so i'm debating cancelling which won't go down well :undecided ....I'm really not sure what to do!

Tomorrow I have an appointment with a new family with HS i'm debating cancelling and asking that they use another volunteer as no matter whether we're buying or renting I will have to start getting this house ready to hand back within the next couple of months and i'm not sure I have time to commit to much else  I'm having a very undecided day, can you tell :rotfl:

NSD again but tomorrow I need to get some food in so will be a very spendy day unfortunately!
In other money news i've transferred across the money from my rental fund into my house saving fund as i had to send proof that I already had the savings ready to go! If it turns out we don't use it it can go back. When things are done on the house the letting agent usually takes it from the rent anyway before paying me so I don't have to find the money myself (like the old letting agents used to do to me at very short notice!).

I hope everyone is having a good weekend. I still need to iron and find dinner. Kids are chilling out after their long week at school and the big drive on Friday, they have literally only just got over it this morning :rotfl: they spent all of yesterday yawning and bickering and generally driving me mad with random crying  it's nice to have my well behaved quiet children back ;) house is extra quiet as ds1 & dh and dog have gone to rugby! Am making the most of it before the house fills up again :)
