With my O2 inclusive minutes I can still call 0870 numbers as I took my contracts out before 27th April 2007.
For Orange contracts if you took your contract out before 1st March 2007 then its still free to call 07744 international calls.
Just don't upgrade, or change your contract and it should remain free on into the future...
Are you sure? I was told by Orange (change to T&C) that as of 8/6/07 07744 numbers are chargeable at 20p/minute0 -
hi....is any ony try 07000 nubers from orange for international call.if so can some one just let others now about that number is this is a free on all orange tariffs or not,,,,0

To my great surprise when I called Orange customer service I was told that all Orange customers will be charged to dial 07744/07755 numbers regardless the date you signed up.
I'm thinking of shifting from O2 to Orange to get international calls included in my bundle and was surprised to see this. But I have checked the Orange website and can find no reference to 07xxx numbers not being included in bundles. Can anyone point me to the appropriate page on Orange's website?0 -
I have an Orange contract phone and upgraded on 5th Feb 2007 with 400 x-net free minutes. Orange changed its charging policy on 8th June withoput any advance notice to customers. Orange announces that 07744 services for customers connecting or upgrading to a Dolphin, Canary, Racoon or Panther Animal Package via Orange direct between 1 March 2007 and 31 July 2007 will be charged at a flat rate of 20p/min. My understanding to this change is that If you are an Orange contract customer and are on a tariff plan signed before 1st March 2007, you can make FREE international calls using your cross network minutes because calls to 07744 access numbers are still included in your bundle of cross network minutes. To my great surprise when I called Orange customer service I was told that all Orange customers will be charged to dial 07744/07755 numbers regardless the date you signed up. This is very disappointing and confusion. Anyone with the same situation can give any advance thought. On the free-international-calls.co.uk website make suggestions that maybe Orange violated customers' rights and customers can either ask Orange to terminate the contract because of the introduced charges without advance notice or directly complain to Ofcom. Any commercial legal expertise out there can shade some light on this issue.
Thanks a lot
I'm in the same boat as you! Just had an upgrade to canary package then got a text saying terms changing which mean calling my mate in Australia now costs me 20p a min !!! I was using my free minutes, before I realised it I had spent £40!!!!! Cripes! Costly... I wish I had stayed on my 200 mins and 3000 weekend minutes package as the 07744 number was so useful. I read else where on this forum of some 07700 number (though that was just for o2 i think) that was free...honestly if they dont get you one way they'll get you another) Is this legal? It seems unfair that if I had remained on my old package I could still call Oz for free but now I'm bakerlooed!

Re last message - Sorry - I should more accurately have said, I'm thinking of shifting to Orange to get calls to 07xxx numbers included in the bundle (hence enabling me to make calls via SimplyFone etc), not to get international calls included ...0

Re rebtel instructions
Sorry but I just don't get this, I have to call an 0207 number from my mobile to conenct to someone in thailand, who then has to call me back from the phone I am calling him on, but we both still have to stay on the 1st call (Me to him) will this come through as call waiting?
This is not very expanatory at all.
Laymans terms PLEASE!!!!!!Nothing happens until something moves.0 -
Here's a fun snippet for those of you who might not have realised it.
I've had a bill from O2 where they've charged me full international rate for calls made via an 0870 number...
I'm on a long contract with them that was taken out before the 18/04/07 deadline - and I pay monthly.
I've had a long chat with one of their people - and I've found that O2 are using their computers to intercept the calls and even though I'm dialing a UK based 0870 number, they're intercepting that and checking for the international number that follows - and billing at the highest rate for that country.
According to what I've seen posted, they were changing the rules for all new contracts but not affecting contracts already in place - but that counts for nothing because of their intercept and strip policy to find the international redirects.
I'm wondering if this is a situation that should be placed with the Ombudsman as a complaint that O2 are intercepting and stripping out the original phone numbers in order to boost their profits? It's a thought!
PS - I don't know if they could be taken to task for being loose with the matter of existing contracts suddenly being affected - any idea's?0 -
scouser1, I wonder if you've spoken to someone who doesn't understand this very well, and has given you wrong information.
And I'm suspecting you inadvertently pressed Send after the international number, thus putting the first call on hold and having 2 simultaneous calls. Could you check this on your bill?
But just in case, I've just made such a call and will check it tomorrow.
edit - 56 seconds to the 0870 number, but no international call appears0
