  • Babe/hon/love/sweetie etc doesn't bother me if it's being said by someone I know, I'm called all of them on a daily basis either verbally or in a text.

If it was a complete stranger, I'd find it a bit strange but I wouldn't be offended. I'd only find offence if someone was saying it to me in a leering way and in that case I'd just tell them to f- off.
Some times you have to hold back to go forward to where you want to be.

Doesn't bother me in the slightest :)

By people I know or people I don't - I think I like it better from people I don't know, if a customer says thanks love/babe etc... I've defo got a rapport with them which is a good thing I think :)

    I don't mind at all. I think it's nice.

I get called darling, petal, sweetie, honey, even gorgeous (!!) as well as babe.

Ha! I quite like petal! I get called these all the time. I dont mind in the slightest and im in my mid 40s. I use hon and babe all the time and 'love' a bit more these days since acquiring more English friends!

I hate it and think the person saying it is too thick to remember peoples names.
It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.
  • Im guilty of saying babe and hun to my female friends, but it doesnt bother them one bit. We all work in mental health so its probably nice to be called something affectionate rather than a !!!!!!! b!tch :rotfl:

I have had: mate, chap, fella, duck etc.

    Couldnt care less really.
  • i use toots a lot with little kids. And if Im hosting school groups at work, i say ladies to the teenage girls and gentlemen to the teenage boys. And "boys" when im speaking about the labourers at work as in "your boys did a brilliant job today". These boys range from early 30s to early 60s! I think they quite like it!

The older I get, the less I care

My mum calls me hen, its a scottish term of endearment. I think its how its said, I remember when I was working in a project for young people and someone called me love on the phone, but it was said in a very patronising way, I was like, let it go in one ear and out the other, because my first instinct would have been to lamp him, in fact he may have called me dear and not love, but it was said in a sexist way, I wasnt being taken seriously and thats what cheesed me off

One of my friends is from essex, we started talking online and when we met, he called me mate about 5 times in the first ten mins and I was like, why is he calling me mate, hes never said that online, but its just him, didnt bother me in the slightest

Some scottish people say doll as in alright doll, shades of rab c nesbit

Doesnt really bother me what people say as long as its not used as an insult and you can tell the difference I think

Life's too short for me to get on my high horse about what people call me!!

In my youth, I worked as a barmaid (part time) in a rather "iffy" pub which catered for east enders on a charabanc outing to the lights of Sarfend - and there I was either called Posh bird or "the ballerina" (because of my name!) . Now, in the little shop where I work I'm called "babe" "gorgeous" "darlin" "missy" "lady" or "sunshine"!!!

The one name I regret that I'll never hear again in the one voice I'd like to hear is the one my OH used to call me :(

And as my father in law used to say - call me what you like as long as you don't call me late for dinner!!

Life is far too short for me to get on my high horse about what are essentially endearments!
