  • See now all I can think about is the delicious Ray Winstone whispering terms of endearment to me. Especially 'Treacle'. Yummy :p

I'm 52 and wear glasses which tend to make me look a bit stern. People do not call me babe. Ever.:o

  • 'Love' doesn't really bother me.

I think the reason I don't like other people calling me babe is because OH calls me it so it just feels weird (and kinda creepy) if other people say it to me.

I REALLY don't like strangers calling me babe, darling or love etc. I work in a customer facing role and it happens regularly, makes me cringe ! I don't have a problem with DH using them, but strangers, no.
  • I think babe is actually worse coming from a partner. Makes me think they're worried they'll mix your name up with another woman:rotfl:.

But then I hate babe/baby from anyone. Not keen on hun either.

oh dear, I call all my childrens friends 'Babe' on Facebook. Well to me they are still babes as I remember them growing up.

Theres an age limit though. My sons ex is in her late 30s (or is it early 40s? I cant remember) and although we are on fairly good terms I still wouldn't call her 'babe' because she is so much older.

Its meant as a term of endearment. Why would anyone be offended? I don't understand.

I see it as a sexual term of endearment, unlike love or ducks.

I'm odd. i prefer it if people like doctors ( i see a lot of doctors) call me mrs rates unless i am on first name terms with them. For example, my accountant and I call each other by our first names. I'd be a bit surprised if my accountant called me 'babe' but less so if they said 'ah, dear lost, how nice to see you here to settle your account!' I think its an issue of professionalism

In other, less 'professional' situations i don't mind any one else calling me whatever they want to so long as its not malicious. I don't like babe, because I think it sounds ugly. I love those English ones like hen and duck, because they are alien to me and feel so wonderfully dear and sweet. I use lamb a bit :o I think some one must have used it with me as a child or something. I have a few others I use with clients ( who often need quite vocal encouragement and to be reassured and made feel confident and safe) because it works for them. With ones who don't use that kind of language I am less inclined to.

My friends and I on the other hand, call each other Many things. Never things like 'gorgeous' or 'star' or 'babe' but rather more ridiculous and pretentious things. Only one of my friends has a static term of endearment used for her, and its a rather delicious type of baked goods.
