Don't particularly like it. Pet names I dislike in the order I hate the most:
1) Babes
2) Babe
3) Hun/Hon0 -
I get it from older women. It doesn't bother me in the slightest - I find people who get upset about things like this are usually the type I want to be nothing like.
:rotfl: ouch. Was that really necessary?!First home purchased 09/08/2013

Unless its in this context:
^^^^ this.
I hate it. Knowone I know would call me that, my name is my name and unless you are my fianc! there is no need to call me anything else.
I'm a right old grump I know, I do relax when I'm in the north and my fiances family/community call me "duck", I think it's because "duck" isn't a term of endearment. If you aim for the moon if you miss at least you will land among the stars!0 -
I'm 52 and wear glasses which tend to make me look a bit stern. People do not call me babe. Ever.:o0

It's never bothered me.

If anyone calls me 'babe', 'love' or 'hun' I call them it right back. Or 'sugarpuff' or 'honeypants' etc, if they're younger than me.
Edit: I don't mind 'my love' at all but without that possessive it's just awful. They call me Dr Worm... I'm interested in things; I'm not a real doctor but I am a real worm.0 -
I used to call my dd babe, but she told me off as she got older.
I tend to call most children darling.0 -
DD and her BF call each other Babe, but not to anybody else. Assuming you asked him in a nice way, he should have just accepted you didn't like that name, no matter how many people he calls that.
He's clearly not close to you, so it's his loss. He may get over it and talk to you again.
Children and OH have "pet names" for me, but I wouldn't expect anyone else to use them.
I do think I asked nicely. I simply said 'I don't like being called babe, please don't do it.'0 -

I spent some of my childhood in Lincolnshire where I would often get called duck which never really bothered me. Maybe that was because I was only 11 and it was usually older women who used the term towards me.0
