Do you mind if people call you babe?

My DH calls me babe. Or sweetheart, angel and honey, lol. He only ever calls me that in texts though, never face to face. I have been called chick, love and doll by friends as well as nicknames relating to my actual name. My mum still calls me toots (I'm 28), babe or Betty Boop.
I would probably think a colleague or stranger would be too forward if they started calling me anything like that though.0 -
As above, it depends who calls you babe. If a male close friend of mine (who wasn't gay) called me babe, I'd be a bit 'whoa.' If a bus driver, or a female friend, or a stranger called me babe in a dialect sense and not a builder's, "Aw right babe, get yer knockers out", kind of way, I wouldn't be in the slighest bit bothered.
I also get confused about people getting all uppity about being called 'love.' I've lived in Yorkshire all my life and loads of people say it, yet you'll get the odd person reacting bad saying, "Don't call me love." Come on, life's too short and it's part of their dialect, they aren't saying they love you, or that you're their love, relax!0 -
My OH calls me babe and I call her babe, when she uses my name I think I am in trouble0

BTW what superficial world do you work in?
My OH used to call DD pork chop:rotfl:Please do not quote spam as this enables it to 'live on' once the spam post is removed.
If you quote me, don't forget the capital 'M'

Doesn't bother me in the slightest, as long as it's not offensive and no harm is meant people can call me what they like.
I certainly wouldn't be so up myself to belittle anyone by pulling them up for using a term they believe to be a non-offensive greeting.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -

Agreed aileth, I also live in Yorkshire and 'love' is very well used here! I use it myself but nowadays you have to be careful who you say it to, precisely because people get so offended.
My personal thought it that people need to chill out. You'd be offended if someone called you a t**t but it's now offensive to use terms of endearment towards people as well. You can't win!
I love it when people call me 'love' or use terms of endearment.0 -
I can't stand being called babe/babes, sweetheart, darling or hun, especially hun - my name isn't Attilla.
I don't mind "love" as it's very common round here.
My dad called everyone c0ck, "alright c0ck?" wasn't too bad but "see ya c0ck" did get some funny replies.14 Projects in 2014 - in memory of Soulie - 2/140 -
"Babe", "Love", "Honey", "Darling", "Sweetheart" etc.
From somebody you barely know it's rude and innappropriate.
From a partner it sounds like "I've forgotton your name".
From a relative it's just cringy, or again "I know you're one of my grandchildren, but I've forgotton which one".
So no, please don't call me babe unless you want a smack in the gob.
Having said the above, the only person who has ever called me Babe was the lady who owned the laundrette in the trashy council estate I used to live in.0 -
I personally find 'Babe' a bit derogatory. Its just like giving everyone a number and merges us all together.
I only use pet names for the OH. She is my 'Pie' (No idea why it just stuck one day!):jComping Since Sept2013Wins so far - Chips, Billy the lion.:j Thanks to all Comping OPs :j:beer:0 -
No one has mentioned Bird yet i think. My husband was shocked when i was talking to a friend and i said aright bird. He thought it sounded really rude he considered it swearing. Its fairly common round here.
Creepy bloke used to call everyone my lover biggest cringe ever bleughhh.
My duck, sweetie pops, mate thumbs up
hon or hun i hate see it all over facebook i don't know you!, you only want to buy a 50p book off me why am i your hun? Might be more irritating to me because my husband used honey a fair bit when we first got together.0
