Okay, another ground rule needs setting, he rings the kids to say goodnight by 7pm (or whatever time you want to get them in bed by) or you won't put his call through to them.
Be tough with him, he's the one wasting his life to drugs, and don't expect anything from him anymore or you'll end up disappointed time and time again. He's clearly not the person he once was.
From now on your life is you and the kids as a priority.

Not really helping, though. It's not as if a 'roider needs any encouragement to get into a fight, is it?
Just switch your phone off at 7pm, don't promise the boys a call and they'll stop worrying about it.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll

There is no point in you losing your rag with him - you just have to accept that he is a complete ar5eh01e - fact. Tell him that he rings the children before 7pm or not at all.
Do NOT tell the children that daddy will ring them every evening - that way you are setting them up for disappointment.
You should be getting advice from the local Domestic Violence Officer at your local police station. And support from Womens' Aid would not be out of order.0 -
he is a drug addict just as much as if he was addicted to heroin. with pretty much the same effect on his family! he looks buff - he is mentally a monster. and I feel you are making excuses for him and for yourself, because frankly, you have enabled him over the years.
Do yourself and your child a favour and get away from this man.0 -
Thanks everyone. Yes il be unplugging the house phone after 7:05. And not respond to him.
I gave him a chance to redeem himself. No more chances now.
Hopefully my son will be busy enough at school tomorrow to forget about him calling. And my other son is too young anyway he's 18 mths old.
Seeing the disappointment on my sons face after wanting o share his excitement about being able to ride his bike broke my heart xDs2 born 3/4/12 8lbs 8.5:j

Well he's just called to speak to our son to say have a good day back At school.
Our son said ok.
His dad said have you got your uniform on? And our son said yes
He told him he'd ring later on, and he said ok bye dad.
And I ended the call.
His dad seemed really down, wonder if anything I said last night actually hit a nerve? But annoyed he'd didn't try harder to keep a conversation?Ds2 born 3/4/12 8lbs 8.5:j

He made the call, irrespective of what else is going on and yes, maybe something you said hit a nerve
Hopefully it might be the first step to him sorting his life out0 -
Lets see how long it lasts?
Something I did remember him saying was because I didn't let him have the bottle he could have smashed up the place! This stuff really is messing with his head!
And even though I'd changed the locks hed still get in and take what he wants?
I'm going to be updating so I have a record/diary of events.
