Most of your office equipment should "see" a new name for the router and the card in the back has the default name and password on it. I set things here to auto reconnect once I have entered them. If they are using a particular IP address they might be looking for that. I did change this on our BT Homehub 6 that I bought to replace the Plusnet one that persistently dropped out, so although it is the new kit, it is configured as the Plusnet one. I looked up how to do it online.

I'm sure you did but just checking that you told the IT person that you believed your ex had been piggybacking.

Good point. You will now have changed the router password but if it is the line he has hacked via a splitter, you could still be providing him with your services. The router connects via a master socket (usually the phone runs off this too. Our house had this with a master socket upstairs that we did not use, and then two further master sockets that literally split in half the incoming broadband capacity, half to each, with BB in the study on one master, and phone in the kitchen on the other. Ours was down to an engineer using what he had on his van and not anything malicious. Making the phone point in the kitchen a slave point and taking 100% of the signal down to the new master socket sorted it for us.

If your ex was someone in the specialist covert IT area it is possible that the point where you take your signal from the cable, or the road cabinet, if you have one, could have been interfered with, either of which are upstream of your router. I think either of these would be more noticeable to the engineers who look after these (formerly most were openreach). You could run a check to see what you are receiving against your contract. This link might help if that is the network behind your location

Yes, I did tell the IT chap why I had had a new router.  He thought most likely that would solve the issue but @Suffolk_lass has made me think. He did indeed work in  covert IT area for the joint intelligence committee.  I've always assumed he would be careful because if he were caught it could be a problem for his job but then again there are so few of them at his level that the only reason for suspension ever seemed to be dating someone from a hostile government office!

Anyway I have used the link (thank you) and checked my speed. I will call my provider and check what is expected in this area.

IT company suggested a 4 hour security sweep of everything. I think that might be expensive and I did think it were over the top but I will mull that one over.
Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!

In more mundane matters the cat food bowl was full of maggots this morning.   I asked her if she had eaten anything but she was in full feral mode so I think I had better discuss worming with the vet.  For some reason "feral mode" is switched off with the vet nurse!

Late working day message from my conveyancing solicitor:

"all completed.  We will await their signed documents and then make an application to register the cottage in your name.  Will let you know once applied and then send an invoice for work done"

And so with just a simple "whatsapp" message it is done.  The houses have transferred.
So you are now free, independent and living your life on your terms, finally?
Can’t believe that I am the first to congratulate you on this!
Well, well, well done! You should be so very proud of persisting through the cr*p you have had to deal with (and I know I barely know any of it).
Brilliant news to read this morning!
