This Time I'm Really Going To Do It

Another part of removing the ex. I have installed a new router. Only now nothing in the office works. I have been concerned for a while that the ex had bounced my internet down to his place and/or the girlfriends. I'm not very IT literate but I realised he could do such things when I visited him so very long ago at a place he was renting and found my phone picked up the WIFI of somewhere i was living (he had worked on their system) I've had a few problems that has made me suspicious so I finally got a new router.
Only I don't really understand how to install it. It is installed but very little of my business equipment works and so Monday, my busiest day and I can't do anything until the IT chap calls I employ him on an ad-hoc basis as my business is too small for the company he works for to put me on a contract (I think they may be trying to lose the small 1/2 people companies) so I'm going to have a lovely cup of tea and catch up on here.Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

Most of your office equipment should "see" a new name for the router and the card in the back has the default name and password on it. I set things here to auto reconnect once I have entered them. If they are using a particular IP address they might be looking for that. I did change this on our BT Homehub 6 that I bought to replace the Plusnet one that persistently dropped out, so although it is the new kit, it is configured as the Plusnet one. I looked up how to do it online.Save £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £2664.85 out of £6000 after March (44.41%)

Thanks @Suffolk_lass You were absolutely right. I think I got a bit stressed because the ex was trained by the Gov into IT stuff and was a whizz so I tend to panic as now it is just me. i did a lot of re-setting etc and "fiddling" but could not get the drive that holds the database to connect at all. The IT person sorted it all out for just £120 and honestly that feels like money well spent to me.
I usefully used the time I could not work to repair the living room curtains and am really pleased with the repair. The curtains are old and were torn but the repair is only just noticeable now. I did notice how fragile the silk was in various places. They are maybe 15 years old but still lovely. A quick internet search later, and a pair of curtain rods to pull them have been purchased thus eliminating the need to touch them. Hopefully this means the curtains will last a while longer. I really like them so hoping I can save them for a while.
Plasterer paid and the equine dentist paid and the conveyancing solicitor rang to re-do the ID checks and let me know I still needed to send £500. For some reason the settlement figure in my head had gone down £500 so transferred that money in the hope the properties would be sorted out today. Unsurprisingly they did not transfer because the ex's solicitor was on holiday. Maybe tomorrow!

I'm sure you did but just checking that you told the IT person that you believed your ex had been piggybacking.

If your ex was someone in the specialist covert IT area it is possible that the point where you take your signal from the cable, or the road cabinet, if you have one, could have been interfered with, either of which are upstream of your router. I think either of these would be more noticeable to the engineers who look after these (formerly most were openreach). You could run a check to see what you are receiving against your contract. Yes, I did tell the IT chap why I had had a new router. He thought most likely that would solve the issue but @Suffolk_lass has made me think. He did indeed work in covert IT area for the joint intelligence committee. I've always assumed he would be careful because if he were caught it could be a problem for his job but then again there are so few of them at his level that the only reason for suspension ever seemed to be dating someone from a hostile government office!
Anyway I have used the link (thank you) and checked my speed. I will call my provider and check what is expected in this area.
IT company suggested a 4 hour security sweep of everything. I think that might be expensive and I did think it were over the top but I will mull that one over.Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

In more mundane matters the cat food bowl was full of maggots this morning. I asked her if she had eaten anything but she was in full feral mode so I think I had better discuss worming with the vet. For some reason "feral mode" is switched off with the vet nurse!Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

Late working day message from my conveyancing solicitor:
"all completed. We will await their signed documents and then make an application to register the cottage in your name. Will let you know once applied and then send an invoice for work done"
And so with just a simple "whatsapp" message it is done. The houses have transferred.Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

Can’t believe that I am the first to congratulate you on this!
Well, well, well done! You should be so very proud of persisting through the cr*p you have had to deal with (and I know I barely know any of it).Brilliant news to read this morning!🎉🤩🥳😊❤️🌟🌞
