This Time I'm Really Going To Do It

Would you believe mine is right in the centre of my house. If you draw a square & put a dot right in the middle of it, that is where our stopcocks are, its not just mine it is the neighbours too & solid floors. I wonder whether the solid floors will stop them leaking or make any leak an absolute nightmare.

Well I shall not complain about the location of mine again! Or even the lack of one now I have read your comments.,
The "bad Mediterranean holiday smell" for want of a better description is back. I finally worked out it was not my bathroom that was the problem but a sewer outside and the water company sent someone to look - only of course on the day he arrived there was no smell. So an unusual thing to hope for but I am hoping it gets stronger overnight so I can call first thing in the morning!
I lifted it using my large screwdriver and yes the smell is awful - but - there is no overflowing water (which is what I was hoping for so I could get a picture).
I've also made a list of everything that was getting me down and /or needs doing. I've divided it into two, so things that are 'projects' or that I need to get quotes for and things that are small and I can do or sort out. I crossed two of today, which were just tiny. The new pony needs his own colour food bowl so that has been purchased, a broken water bucket has been replaced (it could not be fixed) and whilst out a pair of Wellies for the VNM were purchased. The idea is he can leave them here and replace the pair he has here which I've noticed leak. Yesterday I crossed just one off which was to pay the horsebox insurance but now I've added one because the insurance includes recovery for the horsebox (my AA won't cover it if there are horses in there) and I notice they have changed their provider so now I need full details to keep in the horsebox.Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

i do plan to decorate the bedroom at some point but I will need to address the en-suite issues first, but, as a start I've taken a vintage blanket I remember buying at a Welsh Woollen Mill with my mum and grandma many many years ago and given it a condition with some hair conditioner. Its pure wool and was dry and itchy probably after years of mis-treatment. Washed it with a splash of vinegar to remove the old detergent then put in bath and deep conditioned. The hair conditioner was in my donate pile and I read that a use for it can be to condition wool clothing so excited to see if it works. When I was single, in my first house, this blanket was an extra layer on cold nights and I'm loving that single and in my own house again it will fulfil the same purpose.
I've also found a large cotton blanket I bought when with the ex. It is such a depressing colour (sort of subdued beige) that I am going to buy some dye for it. I can't afford to do the en-suite and little point in doing the bedroom until that is done but I can at least start to add in personal to me items to make the room "mine".Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

cotton is easy to dye in the machine so for 7quid you'll have a lovely item for your bedroom. The colour sounds like it will dye well. I love it when the stitching doesn't take the dye so looks like a feature but its just exciting seeing how a dyed item comes out.

Thanks for the encouragement. I'm looking forward to the dye arriving! The hair conditioner has revived the blanket wonderfully. Not quite dry but so much softer.
Yesterday was a few steps forward and quite a few backwards. I ordered logs and they were dumped on the drive. As I moved them under cover I found a large lump of concrete in the pile. Will be wary about that log supplier moving forwards. Arranged for muck heap to go be taken away and goodness knows what the chap was thinking. He parked the trailer in the field (yes fine) but then spread so much muck loading it that after he had left I scraped up 14 barrow loads and returned it to the heap. I was so unhappy I rang the farmer to complain. Fair enough, he immediately said he would have come and cleared it - but - it was on the way to getting dark and I wanted it done before the horses went back out. We've agreed he owes me one. He is a fair chap and I'm sure it will work out in the end but seeing the mess I initially just sat and cried. It just felt so hard to get things done.

Wow watty. Both those things would have left me exhausted and tearful too when I saw them. Chalk it up to a rubbish day, you've learned something about each of the people involved and today will be better.

Nearly there I see on the goodness riddance to the ex saga... in years to come you will just shake your head at what you had to go through.. We here are still aghast and of course it's, as you have said, a salutary tale on not over paying a joint mortgage when you are not married - I do know you will triumph and are moving on to a fabulous life - he on the other hand ... karma always comes around..
DON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

Unfortunately they seem to manage to steal from you one way or another & in my experience solicitors don't seem to help much.
