A little more positive news from my side......our insurance company are dishing out dividends and so an additional $32 will hit our account tomorrow......and go straight off the cc!! That should lighten the hit it took yesterday! :D Man I love getting money when I don't expect it - and it happens more often than I used to realise.

25p found on the walk to the train station this morning so the day is off to a good start! Now if only everyone in the office (and the telephone customers......and those who email.....and write....!) would leave me alone, I might actually get somewhere today!!

I have been thinking a lot lately about my savings target but also specifically about the comments I often get about how big it is and how on earth do I plan to do it. Well, I don't have much of a plan at all. I just believe. I have noticed acutely since I began this journey with my eyes wide open that I do get chunks of money thrown my way from time to time.....and more often than I realised before. Back in the crappy debt increasing days, these windfalls would just disappear into the abyss that was my finances. These days, those windfalls make a difference that I can see and feel. Do I think I will no longer have unexpected windfalls when I am DF? That would be crazy! Of course I will!!

I also know just how determined I am when I set my mind to something and I know that the Universe is a powerful thing so between the two of us, I know it will fall into place. I am not worried about the 'how', I just believe that 'I will'!!!

Dream big, DFWs - it's the only way!!

  • I was driving home the other day and thought of you.

You say the universe helps you by you gaining unexpected money (you put it a lot more elegantly)

I think the universe spends all its allotted time for me preventing me from being killed. The amount of time i have been driving and forgotten to look around a round-about before pulling out or suddenly looked around and realised i have driven somewhere and don't recall a chunk of my journey..... (it sounds bad but i'm really not a bad driver) Now i'm not planning on paying no attention when driving, just as you wouldn't go and waste a load of money and expect the universe to pay you back but it's nice to feel someone/thing is looking out for me :)

Hiya Brizzle and thanks! Hope you are doing well and not letting Christmas sideline you!! It's kicking me pretty hard I have to admit.....roll on January!

Crimson, I think that is a lovely sentiment and likely not too far from the truth. I have definitely felt the fingers of something bigger than me weave magic in my life so I am sure you have the same. Quite nice to be aware of it though, isn't it? :)

I am extremely glad to see the end of Friday and to know I have 2 days to recover from a really mental week. Only 4 more work days until I am gone for the holidays with a copper bath, a sauna, and a woodstove. I may not come home....lol!

Found £1.15 at lunchtime so a good day on the roadkill front. There is a lot of money on the floor at the moment - eyes down DFWs!!! :)

Hiya C-R!!!! Yeah, Christmas break beckons!! It's gonna be great to put my feet up and I bet you feel the same. I can tell that I am in need of a rest. My job is great but it has chewed me up and spat me out these last few weeks. Hoping to get the total debt down to $12k but not sure if I'll quite make it. Christmas has proved a very unwanted expense.

So here I am, sitting on the train and heading into Monday morning and a stern discussion with difficult team member. No joke, she causes no end of problems. Deep breath, will clearly explain to her again and then put it in writing and she can just have a letter of reprimand when she again refuses to do as she is asked. Joy. Just what I need for my last few days in the office!

So not really looking forward to my last few days if I'm being honest.

I have pretty much finished with Christmas at least, barring mailing a couple of things out and one last thing for Mr HOK3Y. Oh, and picking a roast of some kind. I have truly hated the whole process this year but I guess that is to be expected from anyone who is watching the pennies so carefully. I have to admit that I worried the shopping element might side track me and I would go overboard and lose my focus but I haven't. Very grateful for that! For my best friends, we took a gift bag full of home baked goodies and some homemade lemon curd that I was particularly proud of. The only thing we bought them was a large bottle of scrumpy cider to wash it down. Think I might do that next year too! I have to admit to a rather serious case of the bah humbugs.....probably not helped by turning 40 next week!

Hope everyone else is looking at a better Monday and a financially gentle week!

Well yesterday turned out to be pretty darn cool: Found £40 at Morri$ons, opened a currency trading account online and saved myself a $60 fee from Paypal (score!!), and slammed the cc again which reduced the debt to a hair over $12k.....can I even begin to explain how badly I need to find $58???? I am certain I can find it before Christmas.....I can!!!

Really chuffed at sticking it to Paypal. Because I was using my debit card to fund the transaction, they wanted $60!!! Even using the friends and family service!! So it would have cost me £1,029 to send $1,525. 'Up yours' I thought so I trotted my little online self over to xe.com and signed up for my own currency trading account and instead sent $1,604 for $1,000! Pretty happy with that! PayPal have just lost a chunk of money in lots of lost transfers. Greed is a dirty word.

On the train and heading to the office. Wearing my Christmas tree earrings and Christmas bracelet I made last year. If I had a Santa hat, I'd probably be wearing it!! Will probably sit at my desk and sing Christmas songs through the day - guess the spirit finally got me!

Lots of love and luck to all my fellow DFWs as we careen into Christmas - Hope the holidays are kind to you all. :)

Oh I am happy to be heading home to my Pjs, my hubby, and a mug of tea! I am absolutely shattered and the next 2 days cannot pass quickly enough. I am sooooooo ready for a break!!!

10p up for the day after finding 2 x 5ps and hoping for more during our evening trip to A$da. We have found almost £60 in cash since the beginning of the month. I can barely believe that! lol! Hubby has literally just sent me a text saying he's found 20p!! Guess that means I need to up my game this evening! :D

Two more work days until vacation time and it cannot come quickly enough!! I am so ready to drop my life for a week and relax. Going to take some time before we leave to submit my tax return so that isn't over my head while we're gone either. Going to pack more PJs than clothes, lots of bubble bath and massage oil, and tons of comfort food. Bring it on!

In the meantime, reality looms at the end of this train journey.....urg!

On the upside, I should have an additional $20 to throw at the cc as of tomorrow!! Yeah!! Just another $37 to find! :). Wishing you all a happy Wednesday!
