Sorry to hear about the tax bill, what a nightmare!! I think you are right though that your hubby needs to take this on himself. You can be there to support him and cheer him on but you have more than enough on your own plate at the moment.
Keep the positivity going! And it's great that you have found somewhere that makes you feel safe. We should all be able to feel safe and secure in our own homes.0 -
Hi wegle! Yep, I think I do have enough so I'm not taking it on. Not my problem......that's the remaining $20k-ish back in the US!
On that note, a certain person refunded one of the charges to me today. My bank is investigating back to 2010! This is what happens when you bury your head!
Happy note: I found 5p in my home train station today and 1p at my work train station!Plus I made 11p on Qmee and my EBay auctions are pushing a triple figure payout tomorrow......of pleeeeeease let that happen Universe! I have made a budgeting error this month and without the extra pennies we will be eating into our money for debt repayments so I need every penny I can come up with.
Of course, I have done a bit of investigating. I had guessed we would spend around £240 a month on groceries/household stuff. Well, I added up what we had spent for the last month and I thought we had kept it to a minimum......well, apparently we have a long way to go......we spent £399.81!! I don't know how!!! We have been anal about our shopping and have felt pretty much deprived of a lot. I do know that we definitely did buy a few things we didn't truly 'need' but I didn't think that amounted to an extra £160!! Needless to say, I'll be watching the grocery spends even more closely this month!Credit Card Freedom gained 14 Feb 2014!!Total Debt Freedom gained 29 Apr 2014!!Savings goal 30/9/23: £72,000/£538,001.....yes I'm serious!Total Debt August 2013: [STRIKE]$21,587[/STRIKE] April 2014: $0!!!!:j0 -
Well it's a dark, damp Saturday in North Yorkshire and I am refusing to put the lights on even though it would be justified given how dark it is at 9.30am!
I have been tweaking my budget/debt tracking spreadsheet this morning and feeling good about it. Of course, I am conveniently forgetting that the car needs looking at as it's making a horrible racket and I have no idea what the cost will be.....need to get it booked in this week to be looked at. It is safe to say I'm a bit worried about it! Could be a spanner in the debt busting works! I keep telling myself it shouldn't be anything terrible as it's only a couple of years old but I know nothing is ever certain so I'll just prepare myself to take it on the chin!
Waiting on some of my auctions ending later today. With the ones due to end tomorrow, I am skirting £100 after fees but I am hoping to walk away with something closer to £150.......might be pushing my luck but I will continue to hope and will the Universe to make it happen!
Saturday looks like a nice quiet day to myself as hubby is working so I am staying home with endless tea and TopGear repeats!Perfect day or what?! Lots of love an luck to all my fellow DFWs!

DUMBFOUNDED. One of my Ebay items - in fact, my least favourite of the items I currently have up for sale - is now selling for DOUBLE the price of the Buy-It-Now price I listed originally. Can't believe it! I have 5 items that are listed from the same designer and I was expecting bidding to maybe go high on one of the others which is stunning, but this particular item?! Can't believe it! Definitely pulling in £100 profit now and I guess we will see where the weekend takes the other items!Credit Card Freedom gained 14 Feb 2014!!Total Debt Freedom gained 29 Apr 2014!!Savings goal 30/9/23: £72,000/£538,001.....yes I'm serious!Total Debt August 2013: [STRIKE]$21,587[/STRIKE] April 2014: $0!!!!:j0

yay! great stuff on the ebaying HOK3Y!!!!!!!
I wish we even had anything left in our lives that we could put on ebay - we sold loads of stuff before we moved out of the farmhouse so have minimal belongings and everything we do have we wouldn't make enough money to justify selling - like OH's babies -his Mission speakers!!!!
I am also on a budget-crunching crusade this morning - it must be the freshness in the air that is making us so focused! or maybe the clad-iron determination?:D but my big success so far? no heating on!!!!!! whoop!!!!:j:j long may it continue! and I'm only turning the boiler on as and when we need hot water to try and minimize as much as possible - lets squeeze every inch out of these energy vultures - they're not getting their grubby hands on my money - I need it for debts!!!!
Saturday morning hugs xxxDebts @ LBM (May 2013): £25,250.27 | Debt Free: May 2015 :j:j0 -
Haha!!! No heating here either C-R!!!! Let's freeze together!
I have fleece pjs on right now and my slippers. If it feels like it's dipping in temp, I'll just put my robe on! We're lucky in that we have a flat below us and one above so we're just going to ride on their heating for a while......at least that's the plan! The flat doesn't get too cold because of it being midlevel and it heats up in literally 2 minutes once we turn the heating on. I am not complaining! I'm thinking if I can push it off until mid-late November, I'll be happy!
We have done a couple of downsizes too - the flat has zero storage with it so no choice on that one! We've sold loads of stuff but I am still always surprised what I can find at the back of a wardrobe! I'm selling some of my Christmas stuff right now and some of it is doing really well. I figure that Christmas has become ridiculously materialistic so I'm going to put up a simple tree this year and that is it. We're going away for Christmas itself anyway - we're off to a barn conversion and have every intention of locking the world out for a week!
I was just looking at your signature - you are well on track for your goal. That must feel great! I'd love to just have $12k left at Christmas! And next year we will both be having the best Christmas present ever - totally debt free! :beer:Credit Card Freedom gained 14 Feb 2014!!Total Debt Freedom gained 29 Apr 2014!!Savings goal 30/9/23: £72,000/£538,001.....yes I'm serious!Total Debt August 2013: [STRIKE]$21,587[/STRIKE] April 2014: $0!!!!:j0 -
Well it has been a pretty good debt busting day on all counts. A chunk of change is already in my bank account from the auctions that ended today with a couple more set to end tomorrow. Found some roadkill and a receipt in A$da which has netted us a voucher for 44p. Did the weekly shop for just £51 so happy with that. Now need to keep any additional grocery spends to a minimum until the next weekly shop next Saturday.
But the biggest news is that hubby has received a message on his phone to say that he is being offered a second job so we are really pleased about that. It means that we will have some extra money for debt busting, even if he just does it for a few months. I'm not adding anything into the tracker until we have it and we understand the toll it might take on him mentally and physically. I am not going to forecast with it as I don't want him to feel obligated if it gets too much, but we will definitely use every penny to our advantage. Man I would love to shave a couple of months off the DFD!
I too have applied for a second job.......we shall see how that goes. It's so hard to get anything decent and I won't be able to do it once my degree classes begin again in Feb but it would be good between now and then to be pulling in a chunk of extra cash.
So finishing Saturday on a high and looking forward to a nice lie in Sunday morning. Hope everyone else is having a lovely weekend! Hugs and luck to all of you. xCredit Card Freedom gained 14 Feb 2014!!Total Debt Freedom gained 29 Apr 2014!!Savings goal 30/9/23: £72,000/£538,001.....yes I'm serious!Total Debt August 2013: [STRIKE]$21,587[/STRIKE] April 2014: $0!!!!:j0 -
A very peaceful Sunday in the HOK3Y household. Mr HOK3Y is at work and so I have watch my final Ebay auctions come to a close, drank lots of tea, and basically lazed around the house without spending any money!
I am starting to think this isn't the smart way to spend my weekends. This is the 2nd one in a row where I have barely left the house thinking it will be better that way as I won't spend money.....but I'm not sure it's good for you mentally to lock yourself away and shun the idea of any activity outside of your four walls! So I am making a promise to myself that next weekend I will get out of the house and do something - even if it's just a walk somewhere. I don't want to end up feeling utterly deprived of anything enjoyable and I think I am heading that way, even though it is entirely self imposed!
Wednesday is my payday and I have a chunk of cash assigned to the CC which I truly cannot wait to transfer over. It will see me fall under $19k total debt AND the cc will drop under $8k. Then with the money I receive on the 1st of November, I will see the car loan fall under $11k. In a few short (er, long!) months I will no longer have any single debt that is 5 figures. All of these little victories along the way are keeping me going, keeping me focused. The big one, of course, is to be debt free but you have to revel in the smaller goalposts along the way or you will lose momentum.
And I am still forgetting that this is all very dependant on how much it costs to fix the car!!!! Need to see when we can book it in but I'd prefer it to go in this week if they can squeeze us in around hubby's schedule.
Regardless, I think it's going to be an amazing debt busting week and I'm really looking forward to getting to next weekend and being better off than I am today!Credit Card Freedom gained 14 Feb 2014!!Total Debt Freedom gained 29 Apr 2014!!Savings goal 30/9/23: £72,000/£538,001.....yes I'm serious!Total Debt August 2013: [STRIKE]$21,587[/STRIKE] April 2014: $0!!!!:j0 -
Whoop! Quick calculation - I have paid off 8.92% of our debt since August! That feels great! Just made my 100% chart and have coloured in 8 squares as I figure I won't fill in 1% until it is complete. Hello Monday! The start of a new week and this one is set to be a good one in debt busting terms: Payday on Wednesday so lots of bills paid. I also have a few things to EBay so need to think about getting that sorted out. Hopefully Mr HOK3Y will start shifts for his second job before the weekend too and fingers crossed I hear something back from the one I applied for. Not that you can guarantee even a negative response these days.
Work should be good too as the difficult member of my team is on holiday so I am looking forward to a calm and productive week.
Hope you all are feeling refreshed and ready for the week too.
