I just tackled the hideous subject of Christmas with my friends and family. I wasn't looking forward to it but it's done now and I am hoping it is taken well. I see no point in sending and receiving things that neither party really needs. Seems a bit silly given where we're at financially. So I have asked to either make an agreement not to exchange gifts at all, or to have them throw some pennies into our 'brick fund' - our house savings instead. I know some people think that asking for money is rude but I am passed the point of worrying over it. The situation is what it is and I am hoping that those who care about me will realize that the need for a house outweighs the latest smellies from Body Shop!Credit Card Freedom gained 14 Feb 2014!!Total Debt Freedom gained 29 Apr 2014!!Savings goal 30/9/23: £72,000/£538,001.....yes I'm serious!Total Debt August 2013: [STRIKE]$21,587[/STRIKE] April 2014: $0!!!!:j0

It has to be done HOK3Y. If someone really wants to get me something i usually ask them to just collect some 20ps for me or give me the change from their purse for my pot. I'd much rather someone put their money into a savings account for themselves rather than spend it on me.
This year, all i want from my parents is for them to allow me to buy a dog. I can't have one at home and i'm always there anyway.Sealed Pot Challenge member #071 VSP #4

Hiya crimson, well I think the dog is a wonderful idea. It would give you so much more than money could. I really hope your parents agree. We would love a pet but aren't allowed here either.
I am lucky in that I don't buy for many people but those I do buy for know exactly what predicament I've been left in, so I am hopeful no-one has taken offense. I will still buy things for children I always buy for, but the grown ups need to be, well, grown up!Credit Card Freedom gained 14 Feb 2014!!Total Debt Freedom gained 29 Apr 2014!!Savings goal 30/9/23: £72,000/£538,001.....yes I'm serious!Total Debt August 2013: [STRIKE]$21,587[/STRIKE] April 2014: $0!!!!:j0 -
That's what we do. i only buy for my nieces and nephews (well 8 of them, the rest i don't see) and my mum and dad (sometimes my little sister (20) too. Since i have no children, one of my sister occasionally buys me something small but that's all.Sealed Pot Challenge member #071 VSP #4

So after a bit of a chat with myself this evening, I will be back with regular positive programming tomorrow. Good Lord I have been so negative the last few days and it's just not helpful. Especially not to me. So, as of the morning, I am going to wake up with a smile (okay, that might be pushing it!) and I'm going to remind myself of how far I have come, how lucky I am, and how good life is in general. Just a week left before I can pay another chunk of the cc and I applied for a weekend supervisory position today which would be great to have. Hubby has an interview already for a second job tomorrow. If we can pin down extra work, this should mean a chunk more change for our debt busting although we both admitted tonight that we won't be able to do it for the long term. I think we will both be shattered after a few months but I want to give it a shot and rake in as much as we can for a while.
So, back to work in the morning for me I think - the sweats and shakes seem to have stopped and I can handle regular cough/cold symptoms from the office. And then it's just a couple of days until the end of my first lot of auctions end and extra pennies drop into PayPal!Credit Card Freedom gained 14 Feb 2014!!Total Debt Freedom gained 29 Apr 2014!!Savings goal 30/9/23: £72,000/£538,001.....yes I'm serious!Total Debt August 2013: [STRIKE]$21,587[/STRIKE] April 2014: $0!!!!:j0 -
Well good morning, Thursday! It's looking like a blustery autumn day here in beautiful North Yorkshire but thats alright because I've already decided that I'm putting my hair UP today......otherwise I'd be eating it on the way to the train!
Itching to make progress so have told myself I need to enter 10 competitions by Sunday. I have already entered one but I need to look for some more. Looks like I will be a competition fiend come next week!
Just remembered that I get paid on the 16th not the 17th so now it's just 6 days to payday and it cannot come soon enough. Very excited to send a chunk of change to the cc and I will also clear my solicitor's bill fully which feels so good. Sorely tempted to close the cc to further charges after the McAfee fiasco yesterday. I'd like to make sure nothing else charges to it but I probably need to leave it be incase an emergency hits and I do need it. I see no point in saving an emergency fund when I'd rather save the 17% interest and use it only if I genuinely need it. Thankfully, I'm pretty disciplined and won't be going out racking up more debt for the heck of it! I might ask them to reduce the limit every month but leave a safety net of maybe $1,000. Hmmm, will think it over today.
So I hope everyone has a great day - and we're one day closer to the weekend! Best of debt busting luck to all my fellow DFWs!Credit Card Freedom gained 14 Feb 2014!!Total Debt Freedom gained 29 Apr 2014!!Savings goal 30/9/23: £72,000/£538,001.....yes I'm serious!Total Debt August 2013: [STRIKE]$21,587[/STRIKE] April 2014: $0!!!!:j0 -
