Lol! Just realized I was a bit presumptuous and sexist with my last post! I guess I do tend to think that most people here are female. I suppose it is possibly true - I wonder if that is down to women being more open to discussion about their personal situations?? Purely me thinking out loud. However, I have come across plenty of guys on here too so apologies if I offended any DFW brothers!
It looks like any wet and miserable day in North Yorkshire but who cares because it's FRIDAY!!! Happy end of the working week to everyone and here's hoping we all make some pennies today......I have nothing in the pipeline so should really get off my bottom and look at ways to bring in some extra pennies over the weekend!Credit Card Freedom gained 14 Feb 2014!!Total Debt Freedom gained 29 Apr 2014!!Savings goal 30/9/23: £72,000/£538,001.....yes I'm serious!Total Debt August 2013: [STRIKE]$21,587[/STRIKE] April 2014: $0!!!!:j0 -
I too tend to think the majority of people on here are women. Not sure why? Maybe it's because in our house I am in charge of all the finances which works well for us, and because of this I presume that everyone else manages things the same way. The only internet forum my husband goes on is PC building ones or car ones!! :rotfl:
Can't believe you found a fiver!!! How do you do it!!??!! I'm off to Tesco later though so I'm going to be souring the self service tills and the checkouts. I will find at least 1p!!!!0 -
Hiya wegle and glad it's not just me! There's definitely some truth in what you say about men and websites - mine spends his life on youtube and techy-gadget sites! And yes, I hold the purse strings! Although sometimes I would be only too glad to hand it over along with all the stress......
Honestly, with roadkill I find a lot because I am literally always looking for it. When I am walking anywhere I am scanning for it. This is the third fiver I have found in a little over a year. I got silly lucky at an ATM last year too - it gave me my cash and there was a tenner crumpled up in the corner which I was never charged for. Very best of luck on the coin hunt in Tesco - look around corners and areas where coins could roll without being seen. I am sure you will find something! *positive coin finding vibes going wegle's way*Credit Card Freedom gained 14 Feb 2014!!Total Debt Freedom gained 29 Apr 2014!!Savings goal 30/9/23: £72,000/£538,001.....yes I'm serious!Total Debt August 2013: [STRIKE]$21,587[/STRIKE] April 2014: $0!!!!:j0 -
Well I haven't posted in a couple of days here. It's not that I am not getting anywhere, just that I feel a bit blah but I am coming to realize that it is to be expected. I was going to say that I didn't get into debt over night but......wait a minute.....I did! Gotta love deceitful, manipulative, lying b@st@rds that you marry believing them to be honest and trustworthy......and end up in a country/state that doesn't care if you never had a card to run the debt up. If you're married to the person who did, you are jointly liable! I ended up with a judgement against me for one of his debts. He even took part of the inheritance I received when my mum died to pay it off!
I guess I have a little bitterness today. Must find a way around it. It helps no-one.
So I have done a lot of thinking this weekend and I do have some things for which I am grateful that are directly attributable to this journey: I am grateful that I now value every penny I have, I am grateful for a husband who doesn't spend money without checking that we can afford it, I am grateful that I can find absolute joy in picking up nothing more than a penny from the floor, I am grateful for the support and comraderie of this forum, I am grateful that every day is one step closer to financial freedom and I know it.
I have friends with larger incomes, bigger homes, nicer cars - and at least one of them is in bad shape financially but not ready to face that fact. I consider myself to be better off than them. I may not be spending £10k on an annual holiday (wish I was making that up) but I get far more from my pennies than they do. I am decreasing my debt and moving towards a solid future. I cannot say the same for them. All I can do is wait for that LBM and then be as supportive as possible. It makes me grateful for what I do have and my viewpoint. I have learned so much and I have grown. While many of my friends probably think I have taken a financial back step, this is not true in many ways. Yes I have less money but it was all going to revolving debt anyway - it is not now. Yes I have to work for a living now but the satisfaction from working to support myself is huge. Yes I am no longer a home owner (let's ignore the issue with the aforementioned b@st@rd and that house) but I WILL be one day.
There is always a silver lining, always something to be thankful for, no matter how bleak and boring the current situation may seem. It will not always be this way. Change is inevitable in this life. I just have to keep pushing to make the change positive.
Love and luck to all my fellow DFWs who may find themselves a little fed up this weekend. Laughing my @$$ off!!! Just fed Mr HOK3Y some Marmite for the first time. Thought I had seen it all.....nope! He was so freaked out at the taste that he grabbed a slice of roast chicken and started rubbing it on his tongue to try to remove the offending sensory overload!!! Hahahahaaaaa!!!
Wondering if EBay would appreciate a listing for a slightly used jar of Marmite......lol!Credit Card Freedom gained 14 Feb 2014!!Total Debt Freedom gained 29 Apr 2014!!Savings goal 30/9/23: £72,000/£538,001.....yes I'm serious!Total Debt August 2013: [STRIKE]$21,587[/STRIKE] April 2014: $0!!!!:j0 -

My man loves it!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
I don't like it so he tries to tease me by catching me off guard with a cheeky kiss after having some on toast!!!!!! Eugh!! :rotfl:
Hope you're feeling better than you did earlier? You certainly did get a raw deal with you B*stard ex - but never look back - that's my motto (I'd get this tattoo-ed on my other arm maybe to the 'don't spend it' motto?!) but you're outlook now is so positive! These are the worse few weeks for debt-busting but onwards and upwards!!!!
And no fivers for me in the city unfortunately the other day - did find a fiver at work once which was pretty nice then on the same day my friend found a tenner!!! Was a good day! meant I had supper!!!!
Keep your chin up hun - sending you Ryan Gosling shaped hugs!!!!!! :grouphug:

Aw thanks C-R!!
Get on over to North Yorkshire and you have a jar of marmite waiting on you......and I make a wicked cup of tea!
I have to say, he has managed to outdo the marmite episode this evening. He has literally just looked at me and said, "I have just read that a component of vanilla flavouring comes from a gland between a beaver's pelvis and tail. Do not ever feed me anything vanilla again. I do not want to eat beaver @$$......."!!!!!!!!

Hating life this morning. I am NOT a morning person and I should know better than to stay up until well past midnight on a work night so it is my own fault that I am feeling so shattered this morning. I could cheerfully crawl back into my bed and not surface until noon. Oh my. It will be an early night tonight for certain.
Another work week lies ahead and a boring, between paydays work week too! I am living for paydays now and not for the reasons I used to live for them! I don't care about spending my money on 'stuff', I just want to make a big payment off my debts while making an imaginary 'up yours' gesture to the bank!Lord it seems paydays get further and further apart!
Best of luck to everyone this week in making the best of the opportunities presented to us. Here's hoping on Sunday we can all look back at the week and say we are better financially than when the week began. Love and luck to all my fellow DFWs. Hey HOK3Y!! The monday blues suck!! I too am feeling the strain between paydays, they can't come quick enough!!
I laughed so much at your husband's reaction to marmite!! There really is no way to describe the taste to people. I personally love it! We gave it to my friends baby for the first time a while back and her face was a picture!!
Hope you get through work ok and remember each day, no matter how rubbish it feels, is one day closer to debt freedom!!0
