  • Kat, would access to large quantities of herbs and spices help at your event tomorrow? So people can experiment, or have the right amount for a recipe, instead of having to shell out for a full packet?

Hi there, Not been able to check in for a couple of days - sorry Kat! Been sticking with the challenge though :). It was my son's 18th birthday yesterday - the party is tonight so definitely not a SFD!! I dug out some old photographs so we could enlarge and print them to decorate the room for tonight. Can't believe my little baby is a man. Some of the pics only seem like they were taken five minutes ago! Ah well, feeling very old today.

My last SFD was Wednesday. I think this will be the part of the challenge I'll fail on. There always seems to be something I have to fork out for.

The exercise is going well, but then I'm an exercise junkie so it should do. I don't drink except very occasionally so that isn't a problem either. I have had a couple of grocery spends recently too - coffee from waitr*se (they don't sell the coffee I like in Ald* and it is pretty much the same price everywhere else) on Tuesday along with decaf tea and I weakened and spent 99p on a single chocolate brownie. I know :o. In my defence it was late and I was tired and hungry. I also had to spend this morning on some things for tonight's party. One of the guests needs gluten free food and as we are having a cold buffet I had to get some gluten free bread. I also bought meringue nests, raspberries and cream so I'll make a few mini-pavlovas so she can have a dessert as well. I'm up to £135 on groceries so far. I know it's not as frugal as many of you but this is an awareness month for me so I'll see how it goes.

Went to spinning class this morning at 6:45am . At least that is done and I can enjoy tonight knowing that I've exercised today. Had my hair done (mobile hairdresser so much cheaper than a salon) and my dress is one I've worn a couple of times before.

Right - can't wait - off to trim up the party room.

    Keep at it everyone!

  • Hey everyone!
Apologies for not dropping in yesterday - i felt ashamed from another spending day - OH needed some stuff so had to pick it up on way home :(

but he's much better now and should be back at work on Monday! whoop!! (he's not as pleased!!!!) and I managed a SFD today!!! :j:j:j

I'm on my hols now and today I am doing a few loads of washing to get rid of the 'illness' from OH's clothes and the bedding - coincides nicely with the wash I would have done anyway of all the blankets ready for winter!!! :j

NSK - how about something like value soap/shower gel - I read an article about food banks the other day and they mentioned one thing they now always put in (apart from bog roll) is shower gel so that could go into your value hamper? People always forgot how much the 'extras' can add up to if not calculated into a ten pound shop!!

    my updates:

groceries -69.82/100 - going to take dry cleaning off this one so really still 59.82/100
tobacco - 2/40 - transfer dry cleaning onto this as OH not smoked at all while ill - so will become 12/40
contingency 40/40 - went on updating train tickets
    beauty - 4.5/0
transport: 4/20 - won't need the rest of this now not going Cornwall so will put 16 into savings!

    SFD - 7/18
    AFD - 13/30 - yay! i'm stone cold sober!!!
exercise - went for a walk earlier but should do more (says my little pot belly!!!:o)
charity - 0/3 - try and do tomorrow at market/supermarket

That's all from me! Hope everyone has a good Friday!

    Evening!

Unexpected SFD today, I have enough food til Sunday and I couldn't be bothered to go into town today :p this does mean, however, that I only have two teabags to last me until Sunday  another workout done and reviewed. Every day this week a different part of me has hurt like heck because of all this exercise. Today it's my bum :rotfl:

Aiming for another SFD tomorrow, this challenge is really helping me focus. Thanks NSK!!

    Update on goals:

    Food £50.87/£100
    Transport £106/£100
    Misc £65.40/£200
    Beauty £5.64/£10
    Food bank £0/£3

  • Evening everyone, just sneaking in before midnight with today's update. Two more NSDs under my belt :) Tomorrow's another matter though. I need a new tyre and I've been driving around on my skinny little spare for the last two weeks waiting for my credit card statement to be issued so that I can buy a new one. If I buy it tomorrow, I won't have to pay for it til 2 November - hurrah to using credit cards the way they should be used :j My exercise tomorrow will involve a 4 mile walk through the streets of London (hope the rain eases off!) and since it's already going to be a spend day, I'll be treating myself to another smoothie when I reach Covent Garden.

Fab plan Kat with the hamper! I think what you're doing is amazing :A I hope you post a picture on FB so we can see what it looks like. Excellent idea to get people to guess the cost - I would love to know what sort of answers appear. Have a fab Saturday (though don't wear yourself out for your OT shift on Sunday!)

So, my existing figures live to see another day...shall update on my spends tomorrow :))
