Morning all..
Good grief I am feeling tired today! I got home yesterday fully intending to cook a lot of goodies to see me through the weekend. Instead I lay on my bed for all of 5 minutes which morphed into 90 minutes... WHOOPSIE!
I did drag a groogy me to the kitchen eventually to create some of Jack Monroe's carrot and cumin kidney bean burger things but followed her recipe for falafels.. I didn't squish the beans properly as I was just to tired to care but such a simple yummy dish. With rice and mixed veg... YUMMY! Same again for lunch today.
I have precisely £50 left... £1 is in my bag for the gym locker, a surrupticious can of pepsi ( so no naughty step for LAGL ..:rotfl:) and a few pennies on YS items leaves me at a total of £50 expenditure. It won't take me through until the end of the month as I have no veg in but I am going to see just how far I can stretch this out...:T
I have had a thought...those with petrol budgets, should you have money set aside for this..i.e. £100.. and don't go over this.. the days you "tank up" can be classed as SFD's. There is no point you losing a day when you have clearly budgetted for this... SO... start deducting days... that's my good deed for the day I think...
So church tomorrow is an open day for the community.. we will have a jumble sale where people can take things for free, food and drink, AND more importantly since we are in a poor council estate a little money talk session.... I am literally gonig to bore anyone who cares to listen with how I managed my journey, try not to patronise by insisting a job of any sort is essential, regale the importance of "pay-day loan avoidance", and such like... we won't be giving out financial advise but I will be sending them all to MSE...
However I am creating a hamper...ideas greatly recieved of everyday value items to the value of £10 or thereabouts.. whoever is able to guess how much the hamper costs to the nearest value gets to keep the items... in a bid to make people realise just how cheaply they can live...
I am planning a taste test as well with biscuits, perhaps cake and anything else that you can suggest that doens't need to be cooked or chilled and see if people can tell the difference between expensive brands and not-so expensive brands... then perhaps ask them is it really THAT much of a difference if they swapped a few items in their trolley etc...
Hmmm I need to plan this all today as I have been super lazy recently. It means however I have to use my own money and wait to get re-paid. I hate doing that but I have the cash and it makes life easier in the long run...
We might end up being a Christian Against Poverty drop in debt management centre thingy... looking into this though as I get the feeling it might be a massive commitment for our tiny church...
So that is NSK land for the weekend. More OT on Sunday bringing me to the grand total of 32 hours this month. I need another 10 at least and next weekend is unavailable..Grrrr! So I have fingers crossed for the last weekend of the month...
By my calculations I might be rid of this loan by the 01.12.2013.. a whole month earlier:j:j:jIt means working like a dog until the end of October at least and paying an extra £1000 a month for the next two months which I think might be do-able... fingers crossed then eh... I might actually be able to buy my parents a Christmas present or two....
Right enough wittering from me. I have posters to create...

NSK- I will cheerlead you on for an earlier DFD as mine will be then as well! YOU CAN DO IT!!:j:j
Love the hamper idea! :T
You should definitely do Jaffa cakes (own brand and branded) on the taste test!:coffee:

Good morning,
thank goodness I have £23 left in the garden budget as my bike tyre blew this morning half way to work. So that'll need replacing (will cycle as long as baby bump allows me to save money, bus is 3 quid a day). But found a cycling supplier with a sale on and will get a new tyre and new brake pads as they're totally worn down too for more safety in the winter. Still got new inner tubes at home and it shouldn't cost more than £17 plus I'll go through TCB. So today won't be a SFD if I order that tonight. Hopefully just a new inner tube should get me to work at the start of next week till the new tyre arrives.
I really like that hamper idea too NSK, how about tinned peaches etc.?DEBT 02/25: total £6100 Debt free date 12/250 -

Morning all,
Kat your Saturday sounds fantastic - hope it goes really well and the right people come along. As for the CAP centre are there other churches you could team up with? I think you can run Cap Money courses with only a couple of you trained - we are also a small set up and that's what my pal and I are thinking of doing to start with. Its not the full counselling package just a short course on money management. I think the training is about £45 and then you have access to the resources/publicity etc. It something Ive wanted to do for a while and I think could be delivered with a lot more understanding and care by those who have actually been in debt.
Anyway thanks for allowing me off the naughty step - nice big SFD today - will update totals later.

Thrifty tinned peaches are in there with come rice pudding. I am basically following the local food bank guidelines as to "what everyone wants" and including bog roll too... and what Jack would use... KIDNEY BEANS!!!
LAGL.. there are CAP money courses in our area which are all well and good but they don't cater for those in considerably debt and feeling suicidal.... no church has come forward in our area to offer their help with this. And the local ones that do are not really local and would you believe "don't cover our post code"...
This is going to be a very basic initiation as some of the older generation who might be struggling to get by or single Mums who don't know about MSE or anyone for that matter who are computer illiterate need a little help or guidance to not be ashamed of their situation and that there are people to help .... my only worry is our church don't offer help of that nature so who do I send them to.. Guess the local CAB office is the best option.. but it's those in desperate need that we are currently attracting to our church (which is the point of our existance).. but I am concerned we can' do enough so to speak...
I also didn't realise CAP come to your house - they don't make people travel to them! How cool is that!“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent".0 -
Hi Kat,
As you say it sounds like the full CAP thingy in your area is what's needed and that there might be like minded people around about. The postcode thing is also true around here - its run in the towns and if you are rural you dont have access. Maybe its not about your church being able to do enough but offering what you (as in church) haveHaving someone that is passionate about it and willing to say that they've been there is always a good start. Could be worth contacting the local one that doesnt cover your postcode and seeing what support they would need to include your area?
Anyway will stop whittering - have a brilliant day tomorrow - me well I will be sort DS out with some school trousers that fit - discovered the ones Id got him were too big last Sunday night and he has been in shorts for half the week and a pair of dark grey non school trousers the last couple of days - quality parenting!!
