We ended up putting our boy in a child's swimming cossie, with a hole cut out in the bum for his tail. Obviously it had to be removed for toilet purposes, but he tolerated that far better than the cone, which he managed to defeat by putting a back paw on it.

Back to the drawing board...Jack went crazy when I put the swimshorts on him. Doing everything to get them off and managed it by dragging himself across the carpet along with frantic chewing and off they came.

My sister suggested one of those blow up neck pillows you get for the plane, so I'll try to get one of those in the morning. Going to a local pet supplies place too, see if they have anything.

    Hope Jack is recovering well.

As I read your Thread, it struck me that the problem is more to do with the area you live in than poor old Jack.

If the untrained druggie dogs didn't attack Jack, then Jack wouldn't have had to defend himself. Thank goodness he could defend himself and Lucy.

Now post-op, I would worry for Jack and Lucy if the druggie dogs attack. Can you walk them in a different park so avoid the druggie dogs all together?

Can you carry a stick to beat off the druggie dogs? Is that legal?

I'd hate to hear that Jack or Lucy has been wounded by these druggie dogs. I hope you can find somewhere safer to walk :-)

I tried a pair of OH's boxers on Dex, (shh, don't tell him :) ), and they drove him nuts, the waistband was too close to the stitches. He ended up with a very fetching girl's tatty Teddy cossie, from a certain supermarket starting with A :D

    Yes I do have photo's :) and yes, I am a cruel mummy :D

Thanks again meritaten. You're a star:) The world would be a far better place if more people were like you.:T

Found some draught excluder stuff in the depths of the shed and for once, realised O/H's habit of hoarding stuff in case it's useful one day has paid off:)

So at least Jack isn't lacerating my legs every time he crashes into me, poor little guy:(

You are so right Dimey. Unfortunately I can't see much point in putting the house up for sale.

When I moved here it wasn't a bad area. But most of the elderly owner occupiers have died over the years and their houses went into the hands of private landlords or social housing companies. There's a family opposite who are sitting on their wall 24/7 smoking drugs and getting drunk while effing and blinding at the top of their lungs. Nightmare stuff with the cops there on a daily basis. So who would buy a house here?

The druggies and their vicious dogs go with the territory and I need Jack to be safe whatever it takes.

If he is attacked, and really hurts the attacking dog in retaliation, then he could be hit with a destruction order and I have to do whatever I can to protect him from that.

I'm hoping he won't smell like a male to these horrible dogs any more and so won't be attacked and in turn won't fight back to excess.

And I've got myself a collapsible walking stick to take with my mobility scooter so if a vicious dog has a go at Jack I'm going to bash him with it.

    ty zaksmum!
I know what its like when a street goes 'downhill'. its sheer hell! especially if you own YOUR property! years ago it happened in mine - what was a lovely mix of council and private properties went t!ts up when 'charity/social housing were taking over the council properties. all of a sudden we had drug dealers, party animals, and kids out of control. residents formed a neighbourhood watch and I found myself chairing it! I was terrified! but, over the years it HAS got better.
The one thing I would say to owner occupiers in this situation is 'complain, complain AND COMPLAIN VERY LOUDLY! and the police can be be a great help - they want a quiet life so are usually willing to help residents achieve that.

You are so right when you say that selling isn't an option - we wanted nothing more than to move - but at Ten thou below the average price for properties because of the streets bad rep? not an option.

Yes I know what you mean re the area going downhill Zaksmum. I feel for you. I find it quite scarey and keep a very low profile.

There's not a park in a different part of town you can get to? If you're on a mobility scooter I guess you're limited by battery life.

I do hope everything works out for all of you.
