Thank you, maybe its best I ring them tomorrow to double check this is concerning M&S card safe or card guard - pretty sure it must be that but I'm sure I had some HSBC card guard policy at one stage but that was going back pre 2005 and don't have statements now so am sure it was the M&S one.

Will ring to make sure then tomorrow then send my forms off.

The CPP refund scheme does not cover any policies prior to 2005.
  • I had no idea if I was entitled to anything, but I didn't bin the letter and thought it wouldn't hurt to try, so this was the claim I made - as you can see quite vague:
"I had an M & S card safe policy for many years. I no longer have this product, and as I recently moved house I have been unable to find the paperwork relating to it, which may well have been discarded. So I am not sure if I qualify for compensation. However the £100,000 cover after a card is notified as lost/stolen would certainly have been an attractive selling point, and even more so the £5,000 cover if lost before the loss/theft was notified. So it is quite likely that either or both were included when I had my policy and encouraged me to take this policy rather than one from another provider. I assume you have a copy of the terms and conditions from when I had my policy and can check if this is so."
    And today I recieved a cheque for £99.80! :)
Only bugbear is the interest is taxable, so £7.45 was taken off and as the new tax year has just started I'm going to have to wait the best part of a year until I get that back - unless I'm lucky enough to get the hours I need in my new job to be paying tax :rotfl:- it's not always a bad thing!

I just received a cheque for over £150. I didn't even realise I'd ever taken out CPP until I received a letter about it, and I've got no paperwork to prove it. But filling in the form was simple and I got the compensation much quicker than I expected. A huge chunk of it (about £50) was interest, and I'll be able to claim another £11 tax back. My only concern is that somehow I know that we - and not the banks - will end up paying for this.

I had the M&S Cardguard scheme for around 3-4 years I remember they told me it covered all my cards being stolen and kept telling me one phone call and we sort all your cards. Pretty sure they mentioned it covering me against fraudulent use of my cards both store and bank too and possibly house keys.

I only tend to keep paperwork for 3-5 years so it will all have been shredded by now - wishing I kept the policy now.

Don't worry about missing paperwork - I had none but still got a refund. My memory of the sales phone call was vague too, but I distinctly remember them using scare tactics.
  • Martin Lewis has provided the letter templates to reclaim the CPP, very helpful if you know why you took out the policies in the first place - anyone know what we do if we cannot remember why we took out the policies. We have received two letters for two different cards. We think we are owed a lot of money - we don't know which reason to choose from the templates!
  • I got a cheque through yesterday for £151 :j

But what do you say? They won't pay you if you call and say we haven't a clue why we took out the policy. We having the same problem, don't know which template to choose.
