Banks typically keep records for six years.

However, the fact that you have had the same account for far longer than that is cause for optimism, but you'll only know for sure by contacting the bank with your complaint.

Thanks I called them and informed them of my intention and they have passed it to the complaints division they will get back to me by Tuesday . Keep you all informed

No point just informing them of your "intention", just send them the complaint!
  • Came onto the site looking for car insurance. Saw an article about re-claiming miss-sold CPP insurance. I remembered getting the letter and the deadline was fast approaching. Applied that day following the template provided and today received a cheque for £792! Result. From writing in to receipt of cheque - six weeks. Thank you, MoneySavingExpert. I'm off on first holiday for four years.

ha ha its ok I was told that if you call them before you send the letter it could have a beneficial factor in getting them prepared for the letter . I fully intend to do it all correctly . They said the complaints dept have to reply within 48 hours (working days ) so Tuesday. One thing though We had card keys and passport covered so the premiums would have been quite high what roughly has other folks been paying monthly or annually ?
thanks for the help so far

That's just nonsense I'm afraid. No one at the Bank will be "prepared" for the letter and people dealing with your complaint will be completely unaware you've even made prior contact. I provided a link to the correct procedure a few posts back.

Just send the complaint, they have eight weeks to respond-not two days. Don't waste any more time.

No point trying to compare your own payments with those of others. However, reading through this thread should give some indication of likely payouts (usually very modest)
  • I got a cheque for £221 just by using the MSE template, really surprised to get that much! Now waiting for a re-issued cheque as I also claimed on behalf of my late mother, which CPP said I could do, but they sent a cheque made out in her name which I was unable to bank.

Letter from Barclays upholding my claim for CPP on my Egg card from 2005, £314 on it's way, thanks MSE. I didn't have my account number, but Barclays just sorted it out, well pleased

  • I saw this discussion topic rather late in August but as the final date for claiming was 31st August, I thought I was still in with a chance. I redrafted the template letter and posted it on 27th August, paying for guaranteed next day delivery (for which I still have the receipt!)

However, I have received a letter back from them dated 25th September stating that my claim was received after the deadline. How can this be if they are guaranteed to receive it on the 28th of August?

    Any ideas??

I presume that is special delivery?

Did it go to the right address, e.g. The one for special delivery, rather than the PO box number?

If you sent it special/guaranteed to the PO box, I'd guess it got re-routed back to the local rounds and got delayed in the process?

You left it too late. The address for sending was not set up to receive signed for mail and you probably delayed it further by sending it by Special Delivery.

    You could appeal, I suppose.
