Biscuits....yum yum yum. (I don't use flannels, just those showery puffy things)
:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.
  • First time posting.. after looking for some baskets for a while I discovered some in Wilkinsons for £2 which is the cheapest I've seen, they're a decent size too!

  • Hi all, love reading this thread and seeing all your fantastic ideas. I have a friend that does some writing and is writing a book. I wanted to do some kind of hamper for her, so far I have thought of some nice notepads, pens and some nibbles to keep her going. Anything else?

I write too and would love someone to do me a writing hamper! Although it is hard to think of things, I'll try,
Some things I would appreciate (although you don't say your budget, so pick and choose)
A magazine subscription to a writing mag
You mention notebooks, most writers I know have addictions to notebooks, so a selection of different sizes with pretty covers is a must
As well as pens, highlighters to use during research or editing
A Rolodex or similar, which are great for writing quick summaries of characters
Them packs of various sizesand colours post it marks to mark pages of books for research
    Paper clips/stapler
    Pack of printer paper
A flash drive to back up any work
A thermal mug (random, but you can easily got caught up in your writing and forget about your drink ive spat many a cold coffee out when I'm on a roll)
A copy of the artists and writers yearbook (this is published annually and lists all agents and publishing houses, as well as advice and tips on who to send ur work to) if she doesn't have this, I would reccomend you get her it
    Tickets to a writing festival
If you are aware of any area she is struggling you could get a book to help (ie grammar, plot line etc)
If she has kids, a homemade boom of babysitting vouchers so she can have some quality writing time alone
A diary to plan deadlines and mark any competition deadlines
    Box file or multisection folders
And I would probaly finish it off with a handmade wooden sign about writing or writers (check Pinterest for ideas)
A celebratory bottle of wine or similar for when she finishes her writing

I think this is a brilliant idea, I would love you as my friend

  • Ooh and also, if budget allows a dictaphone is a brilliant tool for a writer. Personally I find all my best ideas come to me inthe bath! Obviously I can't take a notepad in there, but a dictaphone on the windowsill is perfect, then ican just listen back to it when I'm ready to type.
Unfortunately mine is broken,I would love a new one

No problem, just make sure you pop a pic up when you've done so I can look at it in envy.

Just had a thought, if you got a box file you could use it as the actual hamper box, if you could come up with a way to support the lid so it stands up

Depends what you call a decent price, I guess.
Nice ones I've seen are in Primark, M&S, Ponden Mill (not seen it, but my mum assured me it was lovely and I might be getting it for Christmas!), eBay and Studio. Trying searching 'snowflake' or 'fairisle' if that type of design appeals to you.
