  • Giggle, your hampers are lovely.....did you do the ribbon thingy on the box of the second one, the dark blue hamper? Give me pointers to make the same if you did, please......I would appreciate it :-0

Have you tried a packet mix? Even I can manage to do one of those. Buy a value sponge mix and have a practice. That way you've not lost much if it doesn't work out. I think it'll mean a lot more to both of you if you made one. If you really can't make one, buy one, but tell her you did try and make it yourself, but it didn't work out. You'll only feel guilty otherwise...:)

I think that waitrose do a christmas cake kit, could be worth a try I'm not sure about the other supermarkets but its worth looking in the next few weeks as more christmas bits come out, with the instructions it should be quite easy and a nice sentiment

Is it a christmas cake or any cake?

I kow you say you are cake challenged but I made this Aldi convenient christmas cake . There are only a few ingredients and is christmassy without being OTT as it used a jar of mincemeat. Its very nice!! ( I didn't bother adding the zest.)

I'm sure if your mum knows you can't cook that the effort will be appreciated :D

I'm gonna give it a go at cake making start with a mix, moving onto the Aldi and the Waitrose kit, if all goes well.

Like Ruth_honey said I will give it a try (with plenty of witnesses).....If it works out, yea!!!! and if not, well, at least I tried.

Crumblepie, I will be glad if I could bake any cake whatsoever :) and I know she is gonna be chuffed when I present her a cake that "I=me, her darling daughter who she knows can't bake to save her life" baked. My mam, she's not gonna believe it (and that is why I'm having witnesses :rotfl:)

You guys are right, at the end of the day, it is the thought that counts so I've stopped stressing. Thanks for the help:A
  • I've not finished wrapping this one yet - will get some ribbon a little nearer Christmas [I know if I put it on now, it will get damaged]. :)

I have put together a bathtime pamper hamper for my partner, who has begun to see the joy from just relaxing in the bath rather than always grabbing a quick shower. He also adores the Vikings and popping candy - hence the inclusion of a few of the other items. :)

    Contents:
    - Dressing gown.
    - Slippers [off camera].
    - 2 hair/shower gels.
    - Radox muscle soak.
    - Bath pillow.
    - 2 Lush bathbombs.
    - Vikings by Neil Oliver.
    - 4 Viking rubber ducks.
    - 3 flannels.
    - Sponge.
    - Duck 'soap on a rope'.
    - Whittard's hot chocolate.
    - Popping candy chocolate orange.

It proved to be a little difficult to get everything in lol... I decided to wrap up five of the items and used my duckie gift tags to write "witty" [I think they are anyway lol] hints on. Means he doesn't see everything as soon as he opens it and instead gets to open a few different things. :)

I didn't trust myself with cellophane and it has to travel some 60 miles, potentially in some sort of rucksack on the back of a motorcycle, so I figured wrapping it completely was the best way to do it... I wrapped the box itself, so when you open it, the entire thing is giftwrapped - rather than you ripping the giftwrap off and being left with a standard box [was money saving and reusing a standard cardboard box lol]. :)

Well I found some cello bags in Lakeland. Not cheap but they do the job and there are 20 in a pack :)

Used them to make 'mock ups' of my Snowman Soup and Mugs of Gold. Having the printed mugs pushed the price up a bit but I think it makes them extra special :D There are no other mugs the same in the world! ;)

  • I have to ask where you got the printed mugs. That makes them look extra fabby and christmassy. :D:D:D:D:D
  • I agree with crumblepie.....Kevie192, do tell :)
  • I had an idea for a hamper last night that I thought I would share with you.

I'm going to make my Dad an "Aldi" hamper!

I'm always telling him he should start shopping there because it's good value, and yummy, and thought this would be a good way to show him.

Not sure what I'll put in it yet, but probably tinned things, biscuits, etc. And probably a couple of those random things that Aldi sell as well.

Looking forward to putting it together, will post some pictures when done.

    Hope this helps someone else.
