It is a class thing..Some have managed to leave it behind and some still drag it along..
It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.

I've read the whole thread, OP, and I'm afraid that you seem to have come across a (hopefully) increasingly rare breed - the thoroughbred misogynist.

Members of this species can often appear charming. This does not prevent the misogynistic traits being displayed, but may sometimes allow those around them to ignore such behaviours.

A typical misogynist will be so certain of his own righteousness that no amount of reasonable debate will make him doubt his convictions. Any would-be partner should proceed with caution...

Whilst I might be willing to believe 'it's all a joke', his behaviour at work, his comments to you on women not being able to hold senior positions because they're too emotional, and all the numerous discussions on the superiority of men that you've told us about suggest otherwise.

How you proceed is indeed your decision, OP. Personally, I couldn't be in a relationship with someone who didn't view me as an equal.

  • Op do you really want to end up with Benny Hill in this day and age? He has absolutely no respect for you at all. Just get rid now, before you end up getting beaten further and further down by him and his remarks.
He sounds like an idiot. Do you really want to be stuck with him and having to do everything for him? Because he wont do anything if his attitude is like this now.Think what it will be like if you get married.
Just tell him to Foxtrot Off.

There really is nothing more absurd in this world than a white protestant heterosexual male in a western country claiming they are persecuted or being held back.

When we first started diversity training years ago at work, some white male employees refused to go as it was "discriminating towards / having a go at" them. Honestly, you couldn't make it up

sounds like the writing is on the wall for this one - he has grown up where this consist ant behavior is deemed as "normal" and given you feel the need to ask about it, I feel it is fair to say it is bothering you.

Where I work there is a 30:70 split women to men. None of the men I work with make sexist jokes or comments about women's bodily functions. Nor do they have hang ups about women gaining promotion instead of them.
Does your boyfriend tell you about positive discrimination where he works or have you seen it first hand/had it confirmed by the company's HR? It sounds like he's annoyed he's been passed over for promotion and can't accept he's not the best person for the job.

His comments and jokes sound vile & humourless. I hope he never has a daughter or a niece.

I know what you're saying but positive discrim does exist oin his work place. People who clearly are not the best at the job getting jobs or promotions because his work want to fill quotas... Get x number of women in top jobs rather than just saying let's employ the best people and not even consider bother about wherthey're men or women. It just adds fuel to his already annoying views!!

And you know this - for a fact - how?

We were told we had to go on one of these at work. I was expecting the worst, either some tedious left-wing drivel telling me how "privileged" I am, or some patronising "be nice to each other" type rubbish.

However - I was pleasantly surprised - it was actually very sensible and even useful, it covered stuff like not discriminating against men who need time off for childcare, and that "diversity" doesn't mean "minorities" can get away with stuff others can't, eg an example was "Gary wants a couple of extra days off at short notice to prepare for Gay Pride, but the office is down to minimum staffing levels, should he get the time off", answer was no.

Other examples about what was and wasn't acceptable for staff initiatives, collections etc on company premises. And also some useful advice on how to deal with cultural differences in the workplace. All in all I was very pleasantly surprised - I'd heard horror stories about this sort of course!

Just to repeat, whatever you and he think, positive discrimination is illegal in the UK. As for the idea of quotas, words fail me......
