Yes the media like to tell us that the country is broke.

How does that explain multimillion pound bonuses for failed bankers or the ever growing gap between the richest and poorest in society?

Is there not an argument for increasing the share of national income paid as wages, or at least narrowing the gap between the highest and lowest paid? A lot of influential people think there is.

The state didn't pay the bankers. The multinational banks did.

The state pays the OP's company, who pay the OP the going rate for the job.

Last time I checked the NHS hadn't been given a blank cheque. If they did the really essential services might not be so hard to access.

Yes but you have not provided a breakdown or shown how an acceptable standard of living can be maintained when hours are variable or not guaranteed.
You tell me what the wages will be spent on and I will give you a list of prices

It is not my fault many fools are on zero hours or variable hours or whatever. No serious job offers zero hours. I cant see my only boss or me working on zero hours!

Do you not know many private owned companies have made losses hence lots of redundancies? Needing to make cut backs to keep a float?

Wages to be spent on whatever you consider necessary to provide a comfortable standard of living.

Why is OP a fool for being on a zero hours contract? If that's all that's available should he remain unemployed?

Just give us a list then of what you seem to be a good list of these things? You have a lot to say so why not tell us.

I doubt on NMW anyone can afford a round the world cruise but neither could I on my last salary! LOL

Because then I would be telling you what I think someone needs as an acceptable standard of living. I am interested to hear what YOU think is an acceptable standard of living!

Cut out the middleman and there might be a bit more in the kitty for OP!

NMW doesn't provide a comfortable way of life, but if you are on NMW you are guaranteed a pay rise every year, as it has risen every year since it's introduction.

I wouldn't touch a zero hour contract with a barge pole and if unemployed I would stay on benefits.

How about clothing, haircuts, pension contributions, insurance, telephone, household goods?

    Now add a child.

    How about if it's 40 hours a week? 30? 20? 10? 5?
