Why should I name anything as you don't!!!

If I Was in charge id scrap it for everyone!!

    have a great Sunday!

Because you said you were aware of companies offering non contributory pension schemes to new starters on NMW. I am not aware of any, that's why I asked you!

It's interesting that you are so vocal in putting across your point of view yet so shy about revealing evidence in support of your arguments.

    Scrap what sorry?

Thanks, I hope you're having have a great Sunday too :)

Child tax credits are significantly more than £20.30 a week if you're on NMW.

Sorry you're probably right there. However I maintain that the state should not have to step in under such circumstances to subsidise employers who pay a wage that does not allow for a decent standard of living.

    Scrap child benefit!

I am aware of LOTS of firms offering pensions contributory and non but I don't need to tell you anything why do you find out these things for yourself like you tell me!! I never said there were NMW jobs at these firms as these are real jobs not on zero hours contracts.

Oh yeah every day is the same to me

The Government introduced the NMW. They also introduced tax credits. They knew exactly what they were doing - buying votes. Just as unions do when they negotiate pay rises. ;)

Where do union profits go, I wonder?

Unions are not businesses, they don't make a profit. Unless you know something I don't?

Perhaps not a profit, but they make a huge amount over and above their running/operating costs. I'm not including huge donations to political parties in that. ;)

I'd estimate that trades unions "need" around 25-30% of their income from subscriptions. The rest is profit that let's them do other things. But not needed things.

You are completely correct, you don't need to tell me anything. However in the interests of the discussion it helps if you can support arguments with evidence. The only firm I am aware of that offers a non contributory pension to new starters these days is Aldi (after a qualifying period and they do pay over NMW) and I'm inclined to believe there aren't very many more. However if you know where I can find information about others, please do share.

I am a little confused now because I'm not sure what constitutes a "real" job as opposed to one that pays NMW or is zero hours? I think a lot of people would tell you that the reality these days for many is that jobs for unskilled workers only pay NMW and are likely to be part time or zero hours.

If members didn't want their union to carry out certain activities would they not vote to change policy accordingly?

Unions are some of the most democratic organisations around so it's hard to argue that their activities don't represent the will of their membership.

It may be that you think these activities are not needed but the unions and by implication the members disagree!

because there is no reason for me to be more productive. there is no money in the kitty.

You have probably hit on part of the reason why the economy has stalled. Workers in general have received a pay cut in real terms and are no longer willing to go the extra mile for an employer. Morale across the workforce has hit an all time low. This is against a background of bosses awarding themselves big rises.

It's almost like we're back in the 70's with workforce/employer relationships at a low point.

If it's any consolation, I haven't had a pay increase since 2007 (Possibly 2006), not even a cost of living increase!

In that time THREE FOUR successive bosses have promised me extra money only to turn round later and say the company "can't afford it".

We're all in the same boat!!

Wasn't there a scandal involving Scargill a while back? Weren't the NUM paying mortgages/rent on a series of properties he owned?
