how to get a pay rise

How about clothing, haircuts, pension contributions, insurance, telephone, household goods?
Now add a child.
How about if it's 40 hours a week? 30? 20? 10? 5?
Pension? What's that? LOL
Add a child? GET A BETTER JOB and stop over populating the UK if you cant afford to bring one up.

NMW doesn't provide a comfortable way of life, but if you are on NMW you are guaranteed a pay rise every year, as it has risen every year since it's introduction.
I wouldn't touch a zero hour contract with a barge pole and if unemployed I would stay on benefits.
I guess it's a tough and unpleasant choice many face these days. Benefits or zero hours work.0 -
Oh !!!! you will have to take that out of the money I am going to use for sweets!! LOL

So you don't think an acceptable standard of living would include retirement provision?
It's not possible for someone who already has children to lose a well paid job or a partner with a well paid job?
Don't you think it's right that everyone should be able to afford to have a child of they choose to do so?
Have a read of this http://www.jrf.org.uk/sites/files/jrf/income-living-standards-full.pdf to see what other people think is a minimum acceptable standard of living, it's pretty interesting stuff.0 -
Oh and just to say that BETTER JOBS is what I am advocating!!!!0

That's what Child Benefit is for you know and goodness knows what else you can get on NMW if you have kids?
Yes if you can afford to have one do so not if you cant then cry about it, The state shouldn't support anyone's life style choice including those on benefits who keep having kids.

It sure is a tough choice for some, I was toying with the idea of doing zero hours but when you have a mortgage to pay reality soon kicks in and the reality of losing my home comes hitting me between the eyes.0 -
I have never had a job with a pension and there is the company pensions that you get with some large companies and many are non contributory. Also the new pensions that everyone will be able to get via the firm if they contribute etc.

Name 3 firms that offer a non contributory pension to new starters earning NMW?
Child benefit is £20.30 a week? Do you think this is enough to raise a child adequately?0 -

You also get child tax credit if you qualify for it and that is around £70 for the first child.
My old company offered a non contributory pension and I was on less than minimum wage when I started there. They only paid about 3% of my wage into it so not worth much when I retire.0 -

Child tax credits are significantly more than £20.30 a week if you're on NMW.Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0
