Interesting stuff. I'm surprised that one passed me by too. It seems as though the NUM just couldn't afford to continue paying the rent for Scargill due to the decline in its membership.

Unions are some of the most democratic organisations around so it's hard to argue that their activities don't represent the will of their membership.

It may be that you think these activities are not needed but the unions and by implication the members disagree!

I was a member for 15 years and wasn't once asked whether I wanted them to donate money to the Labour Party.
