how to get a pay rise

I do not think it is a good idea to tell your employer that you will only put 100% into your job IF you get a pay rise. It will only highlight the fact that you have got the time to up your productivity by 1% then you were not working to the best of your ability before.
I think the best way forwards is to continue working very hard, and keep up the high productivity levels on a consistent level - try and up your performance by much more than 1% because you really want them to notice. At your next review, explain to them that you feel you have developed as fully as you possibly can in your current role, and ask about opportunities to develop your career. This way, if you are as valued as you think you are - your employers will realise that unless they throw a sweetener your way, a pay rise or a promotion - then you are likely to start looking for the opportunities elsewhere.
This approach worked for me, but if it hadn't - I would have certainly looked for other oppurtunities
The OP drives medical staff to out of hours appointments. I can't imagine much of his role isn't directed, so I'm not sure how he could up his productivity. As for a promotion, what to?Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0 -

should firefighters increase their productivity level by starting lots of fires they will have to put out?0

You're comparing yourself to a firefighter? Really?!
(They tend not to be firefighters for the money.. Ditto soldiers, nurses, teachers........)

because there is no reason for me to be more productive. there is no money in the kitty
as opposed to doing what that will get me a pay rise?
OK, so, if there is no money available, how do you suggest your employer funds your pay rise?
Really, that is the only relevant point.
You could be the best of the best of the best... beat every target... be the most enthusiastic employee ever... BUT, if there is no money available in the wages budget there is not going to be an increase in pay out.
Accept that and stay or start looking to move to another job.:hello:0 -
For goodness sake! I think the OP is making a big fuss out of nothing really. He's employed but worried about a pay rise that at best will be derisory. Just get on with the job and do it well. If you have identified areas of improvement you feel wont be remunerated fairly, then keep mum about it!0

Move jobs if you don't like it, you obviously don't object as much as you say otherwise you wouldn't be working there now.Don't trust a forum for advice. Get proper paid advice. Any advice given should always be checked0 -
Here we go again with the same arguments....
"OP you're lucky your employer pays you anything at all so just put up and shut up"
and
"Just get another job if you don't like it".
Why?
Why shouldn't OP (and all workers) be able to earn a decent living wage that doesn't decrease year after year? Isn't that the kind of society we would all like to be part of?
He's not asking for anything outrageous and you can bet the senior management and shareholders aren't seeing declines in their bonuses and dividends.0
