how to get a pay rise

because there is no reason for me to be more productive. there is no money in the kitty
as opposed to doing what that will get me a pay rise?
Money is not the only reason to be productive.
I don't know what will get you a pay rise. I do not do your job. Take the initiative - think about what might improve productivity/ down time etc.0 -

Money is the only reason I go to work and I don't know anyone who goes just for the love of it. I can see why the OP doesn't find any motivation when they have no incentives to give more.0 -

That's sadCould I ask what kind of level you work at - professional, management, lower grade? I find to reach higher levels you need to be motivated by far more than money, few people reach senior positions without a great deal of effort beyond their standard duties.

I work at a lower grade same as the OP really, I am a number on payroll and even though I hit and exceed set targets those things go against any kind of advancement within the company. As I have been told you are good at your job that is why we are keeping you on it. After years of being told that I find that I only go for the money and if I moved I couldn't take the drop in wages.0 -

Understand, my advice is aimed at someone wanting to advance up the career ladder. Most people that do have made a fair amount of sacrifice beyond what they are paid for - be that deputising for someone more senior, studying in their own time and so on.
For instance, although the OP's job seems like a dead end, an outstanding worker may get the opportunity to do an office based role and move into management.0 -

I do.
Go and re skill and get a different job where there is opportunity for progression.Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0 -
if you improve your productivity by 1% in the course of a year and mention this to your employer but they don't increase your pay - should you drop your productivity back to its previous level?
Or if you identify productivity improvements you can make, should you tell your employer that you will apply them if you get a pay rise? We’ve had to remove your signature. it just seems that people are quick to insist someone should increase their productivity to get a pay rise, but are not around to say what you should do if you do that and dont get a pay rise
Why don't you know what to do? All you have done here over 3 or so threads is moan about itWe’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

With us, profits go up = salaries go up (reviewed in Feb, to start in April)
We're on a margin of around 30% gross (what we're paid, minus royalties), we try to allocate minimum wage + 12% of turnover to wages. Not all employers are the same, but if you aren't seen to be productive, then you won't get a pay rise at all.
