Hi Penny, delurking to say I hope that things settle down for you. You come acriss as very strong and capable which can often be taken advantage of so hopefully this will help everyone see that you can't / shouldn't have to shoulder all the responsibility x

Thanks for delurking for me Katep23 - things have settled down now a we have had a long week of talking things through - we will get there I'm sure

  • A good week all round (well almost).

Financials are looking good - I had a very low spend week again which I'm hoping will be reflected in my end of month savings. Spend of food was remarkably low leaving me with £16.27 daily spend for the rest of the month. I did spend £42 on entertainment - a nice bottle of whisky for DH, lots of chocolate for me and DD for a girlie night in whilst the boys went to the cinema, a cafe breakfast for me, DH and DSS2 yesterday who is heart broken, skint and stuggling to get the marks he is aiming for at school for his A levels. Came back and sorted him out a budget and a breakdown of how many shifts he needs to work to achieve that budget, helped him with a timetable for schoolwork but was not a lot of help for his broken heart :( Also bought myself a nice bottle of wine for a tenner.

Checked out our energy usage - I think we will go over our dd budget this month. On a more positive note I did get £170 from my last provider which I have put away to use for DS's 16th birthday next month.

Got called into school by head for DD as she is worried she is showing signs of anorexia - straight back to the doctors and she has now been referred to the adolescent mental health team. I know she will be alright - its just a lengthy process.

DH had results back from his scan which have resulted him starting chemo in January.

On reflection not such a great week but importantly I am feeling positive :)

Off to Mr T for my weekly shop

Well done on the financials for this month. Food budget is definitely a positive :T with a few treats for the family thrown in - choccies for girlie night sound fun, making my mouth water too haha

2 out 3 ain't bad for DSS2 but his timetable has structure which will help massively with the results, shifts calculated so finances on the up and a broken heart, well that's a part of life that is inevitable at some point, he will come through it and hopefully it will make him a stronger, happier person and with the other focus he has got in place, I'm sure time will help there too

    £170 is a nice pick up :T :T :T well done

referral for you DD will be a long process but you are right, it is the best thing for her and I'm sure with the support you are giving her too, she will be alright, it's just going to take time

Thinking of you all as DH is starting chemo in Jan, this is also where your true strength will show as you all pull together as a family and support each other

Glad you are feeling positive, we are all here for the positive threads but also if you need to off load something not so positive

End of Month Catch up will be brief. Full of cold and feeling a bit miserable :(

    NOVEMBER SPEND

    £251.00 council tax
    £154.00 mobile phones
    £214.00.00 internet & landline
    £113.00 gas
    £74.00 electric
    £44.00 water
    £192.00 car loan
    £15.00 charity
    £307.00 food
    £00.00 food carried over
    £8.00 cleaning/toiletries
    £65.00 fuel
    £00.00 car maintenance
    £473.00 kids
    £310.00 entertainment
    £00.00 house
    £-00 holiday
    £32.00 birthdays
    £12.00 christmas
    £-00 contingency
    £00.00 miscellaneous
    £0.00 house insurance

    £2,081 TOTAL SPEND

Much lower spend this month - more blues than reds which is where blue is a lower spend and red a higher spend than last month. This puts my savings for the month at around £2,950 give or take a £. I would like to reach £115,000 by the end of the year which will give me a total savings of £13,000 not bad considering I bought a car for £14,000 - although it would have been nice to see me reach my halfway point of £125,000 before the year was out I will look forward to achieving that next year instead.

Off to blow my nose again ...

    Aw, get well soon

Lots of blue in your monthly breakdown, which is fab so well done on the savings.
You may have been closer to your half way mark if you had not bought the car but the car is more significant than a figure on your savings breakdown. It is about time, enjoyment and memories so therefore priceless.

You are still going in the right direction and they say slow and steady wins the race :T

    Keep up the good work

  • Hello Penny,

You are doing really well, and being a great support to your family. I am sure that they appreciate all that you do, and even if they don't always show it, they will in the future.

    Good luck,

Still thrifty though, after all these years:D
  • I'm still here - just! I would like to thank you all for the wonderful support I have received through all the ups and downs of the year. I suspect 2015 is going to be a difficult one but I am well prepared now. Managed to hit my target of £115,000 for the end of the year :j
My financial goal for next year is a big one - £30,000 to save. My other goals include living a more simple life and spending quality time with my family. Happy New Year to you all.
