Wasn't there a massive thread on here a while ago that stayed for ages on psychics?

well there are plenty of 'charlatans' out there - one has to use common sense!
people with 'medical degrees' who do physical harm to their patients.
financial 'advisors' who bilk their clients.

if some of you actually attended a Spiritualist church and heard messages - you would know that they are not all 'banal'. I have heard some very specific messages which no one apart from the recipient could possibly know.
but then, you haven't attended Spiritualist church have you? I have. I bet you haven't!
  • I used a clairvoyant a few years ago. She talked a lot about spirits and did a tarot reading. It was a bit of fun with a group of friends, and I purposely was a 'closed book' and gave nothing away.
She told me that the spirits were telling her that I was a real family person and that I spoke to my mum on the phone each night. My mum at this point had been dead for seven years. I didn't say anything as I found it amusing that she was so wrong. However if I was newly bereaved I would have been very upset.

I'm not interested in going over the old argument yet again, when there's a shred of evidence I'll re-evaluate my position.

I just don't want to see a vulnerable, grieving woman parted from her money only to be lied to and provided with a 'performance'.

If she wants to explore a religion, that's a bit different and up to her and I wish her well if it brings comfort. However, any of them that claim to directly communicate with the dead are dealing in deception, usually for monetary gain, and she deserves better treatment than that, ideally from people trained to help her, such as Cruse or the Samaritans or her GP.

Spiritualism IS a religion! legally. and there are Christian Spiritualist churches.
and they don't part people with their money - you can attend for free! if you are mean enough not to put anything in the collection plate. they charge only if the medium have travel expenses and then its usually a couple of quid.
you don't know squat about the Spiritualist church P-1!

We were forced to in high school for reasons I still cannot quite fathom. Then again, this was a high school that also liked to promote the Alpha course; there's a certain amusement derived from a school forced by the curriculum to preach tolerance, yet promoting a blatantly bigoted bunch like the Alpha folk, but I digress.

Nonetheless, I have sat through a prolonged spiritualist service. It gave me nothing but the uneasy feeling of attempted indoctrination. I revisited much of my experiences during my studies in psychology, particularly criminal psychology, and the unsettling parallels in methodology between what I had experienced at that "church" and certain other groups of people associated with religious groups that are led by the likes of Jim Jones.

I do accept that there are some people who can contact the 'spirit world'. My thoughts are this is not something that we should get involved with and can in fact be very dangerous.

You probably think adulterers are going to be spent to the firey pits of hell too.

    What nonsense

During the grieving process hearing voices or even seeing the deceased in quite a well reported symptom. You cannot contact the dead and there is no spiritual world.

The idea of promoting a medium verges on thge abusive, you are exploiting a vulnerable person who needs proper help not a quack religious foolery. Yes holistic healing such as meditation, making sure your diet is well, excercise and massage can benefit your well being but mediums and psychics are simply con artists

Not sure what adultery has to do with the subject. :o

I agree that a grieving person needs help which they won't get from a medium and so don't get why you're so angry with me.

There's nothing wrong with 'seeing' someone or even talking to them once they have died and it can bring comfort. That's very different to someone getting messages.

Its a matter of BELIEF! like the Christian religion. Spiritualism is based on belief. and some of the posts are bordering on abuse - so be careful because I WILL report abusive posts.
