Can I share a "moment" as well.
Looking at my feeder a couple of days ago I spotted a couple of Goldfinches, never seen any before and now we seem to be having a few coming in the garden, they are after the sunflower hearts so I must go and get a niger seed feeder and some niger seeds.Treat other's how you like to be treated.

Harry's Nan (and any other lucky people who see goldfinches in their garden), you might like to take part in this survey.

I did this the other day when I had eight round the nyger and sunflower hearts feeders. Lovely little birds.
We've got an IPC camera set up opposite the main feeder, unfortunately it's inside the house as a temporary measure, so I can sit and watch the birds from the front of the house. They give me so much pleasure.
I've just been to the country store to get more feed for the winter ahead. Bought so much I got a free seed feeder!0 -
Fat balls on offer in my local Poundstretcher, 50 for £3.99 in a tub and without nets or 50 for £3.49 in a poly bag with nets.0

Well guys I'm not 100% sure but I may have seen two wrens the other day in the flamingo tree. But I couldn't get my binoculars quick enough. They were really small birds and definitely weren't tits. I also saw two in a garden close by recently. I was close to them and they were definitely wrens, so maybe just maybe, they do visit.0

Just picked up a good deal at Home Bargains
1.5kg suet pellets with mealworms = £1.99
(the 500g bag of suet + mealworms is 99p from B&M)0 -
I know a lot of folks have this same problem, squirrels I've had to top feeding the birds due to the amount of the little b******ds that can empty a bird feeder in a few hours. I've spent hundreds over the years on squirrels proof feeders but nothing can beat them. Our feeders are on a washing line between 2 poles. I've tried grease on the line ( that was funny for a while watching them slip of th line ) but grease does not last long, I've even seen them jump from the ground to get a grip on the bottom of the feeders, the seed feeders will empty in a day even though they close with the weight of the squirrel, they have figured out that if they take a jump at the feeder it all spills out for them.. I'm now at a loss of what to do and feel guilty for not feeding the birds but I just can't afford to keep feeding the tree rats..:mad:Jane x0

It's an going problem for many who live in areas where squirrels reside. One or two are perhaps manageable but they soon reach pest level. We know somebody who is a keen bird observer who has resorted to trapping them and then shooting them as the only way of maintaining a balance. We were amazed how many he had actually disposed over over the years.
Sorry, don,t have any easy answers for you. We have same problem but live in an area where a shotgun wouldn't go down well with the neighbours!0 -
Another good deal from Home Bargains - 1kg sunflower hearts for £1.69
(cheaper than 2 x 500g bags at B&M's which would be £1.98)
One of the pet shops had various Niger seed feeders on clearance so I got a 4 way plastic one for just £2 (should have been £3.55) so I went and bought some Niger seed to put in it and see if it gets used.0
