It's taken the birds a few months to take to it, but this morning the new birdbath has been in great demand. First a blackbird, then a robin who got chased out by a starling. Robin hung about and got back in when the starling flew off. Glad my money wasn't wasted.
If you haven't already got a birdbath, think about putting one on your Christmas wish-list!0 -

I've got a deeper than usual birdbath though it's got stones and rocks in along with pieces of slate to provide a slipway. The birds only tend to drink the water as it's pretty much rainy here most days!
Courier has just delivered my mega bag of peanuts so now I'm stocked up with all manner of bird food. Just may need some more suet blocks to see the birds through. I've even been out in the pouring rain filling up the various feeders - and me just out of my sick bed too! I wrapped up well and was only outside for a couple of minutes to collect the feeders and another couple hanging them back up.
Now can see a chaffinch on the nyger feeder! They get around.0 -

I've had the lot, spent £100s over the years on different feeders only to be outwitted by the squirrels. They tend to be squirrel proof for about a month before they figure them out.
Have you tried the Squirrel buster? They actually work, I've had mine up for a couple of years and they can't get at the food.0 -
Suspend your bird feeders on strong fishing line...........washing line is too thick & they can get a grip on it
No squirrel can crawl or hang on fishing line........

We had squirrels around the one house we lived in.
We got rolls delivered early in the morning- remember these days?. The squirrels found them before we got up.
So, the baker said if we left an empty biscuit tin out he would put them in the tin,
That worked for a short time but one morning the tin was open and the rolls gone.
He then suggested he would turn the tin upside down so the lid was underneath.
That worked for a little longer but again, one morning, the tin was open and the rolls gone. To add insult to injury one squirrel took his roll round to the kitchen window sill and sat eating it in front of us.
W e cancelled the roll order after that.0 -

The thought :rotfl:
During the AZ sales they offered a squirrel feeder!!! That's all we need  - but to my delight I saw a red squirrel nearby recently :j.
Magpie across the road the other day, I suppose the times of the only area in the district where they hadn't settled are over....
I know that some of you feel that all that is nature is good but I'd rather not have them invade herenest robbers and egg thieves

I've got the buster seed feeder, yes it closes when they climb on it, but they have worked out if they jump on it or make it swing the seed falls to the floor.firefox1956 wrote: »Suspend your bird feeders on strong fishing line...........washing line is too thick & they can get a grip on it

Just asking
How often do folk fill their bird feeders?
I try to limit myself to once a day but I have found that the hungry blighters are getting through at least 1 suet block, 3 fat balls and a cup of seeds before dark
I am starting to think I will need to either get more feeders or fill them twice a day
ETA
I should say that I have 3 different suet block holders in different locations but usually only put one out a day unless there is snow on the ground, I then put out 2.0
