Sorry, haven't read the whole thread but wondered if any one can advise me what to use in one of those nest- material holders, and is this a good time to refill it please? (It came with something that looked like coconut fibre and is now empty.) Thank you :)

I collected some nice soft moss for the birds last year, but they preferred my alpines and hanging basket liners.

Sad, HG, a Wren, should have had a crow.

I know...maybe it was one of the many sparrows that was caught by the hawk but they don't come this side of the house, the food is on the other ;)

One of the hawks got 2 ducklings some years ago but that was my fault for not protecting them properly (I thought duck mums would do their job better) but I can't be cross with a hawk. Needs to live! I just ordered the book "H is for Hawk" in the library, it had raving reviews which made me curious.

Thanks Reen, I know what you mean, a particular aubretia seemed to be the target in my garden. Maybe if I give them plenty of alternatives?...

Human hair (dog/cats fur)is a great asset in nest building. You can clump it in a feeder and watch them collect it!
