Have a blackbird monopolising our garden, he sits in there and occasionally chases off the robins and starlings

It's the other way in my garden, the starlings arrive 'mob-handed' and chase everyone else away :(
I counted 24 starlings yesterday at one sitting

I have tried an experiment this morning by putting fat balls in the holders that normally have suet blocks in and all the birds are ignoring them :(

I have had to experiment a lot with what I put out and where I put it. The 'normal' hanging seed and nut feeders they don't touch at all. Put the same stuff in a tray and they gobble it up. They also like the hanging half coconuts filled with fat stuff.

I tried the half coconuts and they never got touched :(
I had to scoop out the fat and spread it round the garden for the ground feeders, I think my resident hedgehog actually ate most of it :)

I have two busy periods in the day for watching, I'm not sure which one to pick but it will probably be the later one.
The feeders are all about half full and I can top them up again about noon if need be :)

I topped up the feeders and all the birds have swooped in. Difficult to count all the chaffinches. Also now got a female blackbird roaming around. Have cut up some apple and chucked it out onto the grass along with mealworms and sunflower seeds for the ground feeders.

Yesterday I got a bench and shelving out up in the outbuilding so I've been sorting things out in there. Got all the bird feed in different containers on the bench so I can reach them easier and will be able to get larger bags now.

The birds loved the soaked sultanates so will get some more tomorrow. Think I'll get some of those kitchen hooks and put an apple or potato on it and hang them up...see if the birds like them.

My garden got swooped on by a flock of starlings, very difficult to count with all the squabling they do.

in no particular order, my results were:
    Blackbird - 1
    Blue tit - 2
    Coal tit - 1
    Dunnock - 1
    Great tit - 1
    House sparrow - 6
    Robin - 2
    Starling - 22

My attempt to refill the empty coconut shells was a disaster...melted the lard, added seeds and filled them up. Then the stuff leaked out, seems the shells are porous and everything just seeped out, all over the kitchen bench.

    Not happy!
