If it was a caravan park the arcade is usually placed right next to the bar/entertainment area, they may not of had much choice but to take them. I know from experience! lol!£100 - £10,0000

Yes. Have I indicated this wasn't the case? In my opening post I say why I am asking.
Later on in the thread I mention the day I posted I was lying ill with an ear infection and thought it made an interesting topic to chat about too.
I didnt go back and read the entire thread before making the last post I did. I just wondered if there were positives to your daughters holiday as well. Not meant as a criticism, just asking, no more no less.
I know you say why you are asking, its very clear that people are divided as to whether this family did the right thing or not when it came to managing the finances.
Im still not really clear however even all these pages in how you feel and what you'd like to have been done differently. Or what you would hope to do differently next time.0 -
I don't really feel anything, more interested in how other people think and what they do. Initially I was thinking that maybe in future I up dd's money to include admission prices or give her the whole of the money -but I wasn't overly keen on doing that - she loses all the money -quite a possibilty for a 10yo I would replace it, she loses her spending money she does without. It wasn't until FatVonD's post that I thought about dd's friend without money and the discrepancy it caused. In future I would give, as has been suggested, but I'd already had a think about it, some money to daughter's friend. It never occurred for me to do so as until this point I'd not given any thought to some kids not having any of their own pocket money for hols, mine do even when holidaying with us, me and my sis did when little, my neices and nephew did/do and my son's friends who have gone away him and my husband.I didnt go back and read the entire thread before making the last post I did. We are not having one this year, we are doing a staycation next week - ear infection permitting. This is due to having extensive house refurbishments this year (new kitchen) plus an expensive holiday next.
I know you say why you are asking, its very clear that people are divided as to whether this family did the right thing or not when it came to managing the finances. Prior to dd going when I was wondering how much to send, I considered asking on here. I decided against it because I knew the answers would be very mixed as this thread has shown. The admission charges out of a different 'allocation' of money than in my head it was going to come out of threw up something that I'd not considerd prior to her going, which is why I was interested in the responses of a wider audience

Does any of it really matter?Your daughter has had a cheap holiday away with her friend

From what I gather it's just the issue of asking the girl to cough up at the aquarium entrance that OP was wondering about.
The rest of it doesn't matter
I don't suppose OP would have even asked her daughter about how many drinks they had where, etc. if she wasn't trying to work out why her daughter was asked to pay for the aquarium.
OP if you live in that sort of area, today's Express has a bogof code for Flamingo Land and it gives everyone a free meal voucher too

I know.It just seems to be going round in circles with anything else discussed possibly being taken the wrong way.If women are birds and freedom is flight are trapped women Dodos?0 -
Lol, well I'd have quite happily quit after my realisation after FatVonD's post, but when a thread continues and I'm still reading it just seems a bit oh I don't know ungrateful/impolite to not occassionally answer or address any other points brought up. An example being the suggestion that the arcade could have been on site therefore making it harder to stop kids going to it. I hadn't thought of that, so I googled the site to see if that was the case.I know.It just seems to be going round in circles with anything else discussed possibly being taken the wrong way.0 -

If you know these people fairly well, maybe you could ask them how much pocket money their daughter will be taking with her and then you say that you'll give the same
Its a way of bringing the issue up without actually saying, btw can you afford to give your daughter spending money.
The thing is, their daughter might have had spending money, she might not, you arent really going to know unless you were there yourself.
Or next time you could give money to the parents and say, Id like this amount used for admission fees and the money my daughter has with her, is specifically for treats and presents, so that shes not asked to pay her own way into any place they are going that charges an admission fee0
