Is the right hand drainer really that bad? I was thinking of having my drainer on the right hand side too to free up some worktop space. Just now I have my worktop divided into 3 small prep areas but by moving the drainer to the right hand side I would get rid of prep area no 3 and make prep area no 2 bigger.
I have a right hand draining board and I don't find it a problem at all. It makes sense for ours to be where it is.0 -

Do like:
1. the cheap 'fixes' I've done to make it palatable
- wallpapered over tiles and painted a lovely blue colour
- bought car sticker vinyl and backed all of the unit doors and drawers in a nice, clean, glossy white
Your improvements sound great teaandcakeordeath - just what I need to do with my kitchen which has the original late '70s/early 80s egg yolk yellowy orange kitchen cupboards and overwhelming, highly patterned tiles! I'd be really grateful if you could post some pics and/or give more details about how to go about doing this, where you bought suitable wallpaper to go over tiles from and how you use 'car sticker vinyl' etc.“A journey is best measured in friends, not in miles.”

Same here, and in the last couple of flats I've rented. On the left would feel weird after all that time!0 -
I hate the fact that we pulled out rotten kitchen units and replaced with new only for damp and mould to appear on the back wall which will eventually make them rot too:mad:
I love my black appliances but they do make the kitchen look very small. When I moved out of my old house and saw the new tenants white appliances in the kitchen it looked twice the size.
I love my Ikea storage unit which has a large worktop so we can have bar stools along one side but it dominates the room and doesn't leave room for a normal dining table and we can't fit many chairs around it. I would love a breakfast bar but not in the middle of the room as it stands now!
I second the extra plug sockets - you can never have too many!!
I hate my new sink. It was fitted by a friend who bodged the job so it has permanent marker pen around the edge where it was supposed to be cut. The tap is back to front and it splashes everywhere when we run it
We got a 1.5 bowl sink and drainer which is completely useless. I like to rinse my crockery and cutlery and thought I could fill the haf sink up to rinse stuff but it isn't big enough for anything. It ends up being used as a drainer for jars and tins which have been washed for recycling.
I'm actually really struggling for anything I like in my kitchen.....only the crockery, knives and cutlery which can be moved anywhere! We spent lots of time planning the kitchen and it's not how I envisaged at all so I'm looking to do it again when we've saved up.
We have the original 80's old stick on tile things which are horrid. I'd like stone tiles but would want underfloor heating so it won't be cheap.
When we had a flat it had new vinyl flooring in the kitchen which looked like wood flooring. I'd have that again as it was warm underfoot, cushioned and could cope with a bit of water. It doesn't have a long life span though as it did tend to get indented over time but not hugely noticeable (until we moved the fridge and tore it!)
It also tarnished quickly (we live in a hard water area) and0 -
Extra plug sockets - yes!
My kitchen was refitted in November, and there are now 12 sockets at last count
Some gorgeous kitchens in this thread, think I'm getting kitchen envy :rotfl:0 -

Here a couple of pics I took of my kitchen this morning. It's big enough for a sofa, table and chairs and also an island. When we moved in there was an extension on the back of the house but the original outside wall was still in the house, making the tiny kitchen diner even smaller and darker that it already was. We knocked down the wall, put in an rsj and moved the kitchen into the extension. The only item that hasn't moved is the table and chairs, they are still where the original dining area was.0 -
Love the fact that I have fitted my new kitchen myself by hand, and it looks good, even though I am not that great at DIY. Also love my expensive Neff oven with SlideAway door (Ala Great British Bake Off)
Hate the fact it isnt finished yet
